Police have arrested a pastor in Edo who raped a 12-year-old girl was member of the choir in his church. The incident occurred at church in Afuda Uromi in Edo state. Angry at the sodomic act carried out by the pastor, members of the community where the rape took place have stormed the pastor’s church and destroyed some equipments.

Sources say that Ms. Okoduwa had gone to church for choir rehearsals when the incident occurred. She was with other children in the church, awaiting the arrival of other members, when the pastor and founder of the church drove into the premises in his Mercedes Benz car, and started enquiring about their names. Soon after his arrival, the pastor called her into his office and asked her to sit on his laps. While on his laps, the victim said that the pastor began to suck her breast and dipped his finger into her private part.

Speaking to the reporters, Ms. Okoduwa said she felt pains in her stomach, and that she struggled to regain her freedom as she we held hostage by the pastor. She claimed that the incident caused her to bleed as a result of the injuries she sustained. The father of the victim, Mr Lawrence Okoduwa, who runs a rental service, told newsmen that he and his family became members of the church barely two months ago.

In his own defence, the pastor said he was merely carrying out deliverance on the girl. As at press time, a fellow pastor, Rev. Francis Okhai confirmed that the matter has been reported to the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), to which the alleged rapist pastor belongs.

Speaking further, Rev. Okhai said: “Disciplinary action would be taken against the pastor if found guilty because the PFN does not condone any misconduct from its members”. At the Divisional Police headquarters at Uromi, a police officer (name withheld) confirmed the arrest of the pastor.
