This one was always going to be special, amebor.com doing what he does best, covering a major event in Lagos, Nigeria for the first time in its history. And what better way to do it by covering an occasion that has herald the Xmas season for some time in the country of Nigeria.
It’s the 18th of December and a last minute persuasion by an agent of ours helped us get press passes for the ovation Red carol held at the classy ocean view in Victoria Island. Apparently, Mr Dele Momodu did not take too kindly at the caricature of him that we posted in our July LAS VEGAS REUNION BUBBLE TALK.
If you are reading this Mr Dele Momodu, we did not mean any harm. We are just a bunch of juvenile Delinquent Kids starting a new breed of media outfit and we occasionally poke fun at unsuspecting people.
I have to say that at some point I thought the photographers were over enthusiastic, because flashing lights were going off regardless of who appeared on the red carpet. In spite of my thoughts, it was a perfect opportunity for wannabe celebs to get a slice of celebrity status.
The Red Carpet
At nine o clock the red carpet was full, interviews were taking place at a fast pace and amebor.com took time to interview selected celebs. Notably on the red carpet was Derenle (Dude, u still have fans with those wacky outfits), Banky W (That Etisalat Money dey show for your face o), Kenny and D1 (thanks for the interview Mr D1), JJC (Those Awwoooo t-shirts were crazy), Omawunmi, Steele, AY the comedian, Tunde ednut and many more celebs that space won’t permit us to mention.
When the event finally kicked off around ten, we were caught unaware, as we were still outside taking pictures. I missed the JJC performance of the catchy song “We are Africans” but by the reaction of the crowd that resonated outside, it must have rocked.
The Ovation red carol was everything one had come to expect, a perfect blend of Entertainment and fashion. With a growing Nigerian music industry the event was bound to have a large participation by those we saw on display. The line up was awesome Omawunmi, AY, Kenny D1, Ebenezer Obey, Femi Kuti, Obesere, M.I, Steele, Olu maintain, Mo’cheddah, Kel, JJC, 9ice, Wande coal, Waje, OJB Jezreel (music director)Sir Shina Peters ,Ras Kimono, Stella Monye, Niyola, Jazzman Olofin, Zaaki Adzee, Ruggedman, Tunde and Wunmi Obe, Kenny St Brown, Faze, Sasha, Blaise, Bouqui, Lara George, Essence, Keffee, Davina, K.Martins, Kunle Ayo, Dekunle Fuji, Maye, GXploits, Jaywon, Nomoreloss, Dagrin, Wale Thompson, Artquake, Atorise, Buga, Lil’H, Chord, Ibitayo, Ranti L’America, De Waves, Steel, Shafy, Femi Adeyinka, Ada, Amaka, Elfreda Rowland, Foluke Daramola, Obesere, Eddie Kim.
High Points of the Event
A donation of One Million Naira was given to Wish for Africa at the event by UBA (United Bank of Africa) to support the People Wish for Africa Charity
The high points of the performance can be found in the ovation Xmas carol song (Although we wished M.I came up with a more authentic line in his performance), Femi Kuti’s performance reminded the house why we are proud to be Nigerian and the African woman Theme song that features Sasha, Kel, Mo Cheddah highlights how far female MC’s have come in this country.
A donation of One Million Naira was given to Wish for Africa at the event by UBA (United Bank of Africa) to support the various projects of the People Wish for Africa Charity. The people Wish for Africa are serving through its low-cost medical centres in Mafoluku, Ketu and Alagbado, all in Lagos.
Our Opinion
Our thoughts are always based on our own subjective reasoning, the event was nice, but perhaps artistes need to learn timing or is that up to the organisers of the event?
For some reason, at a stage some artistes were taking too much time during their performance and in some cases these artistes weren’t interesting or lacked the artistic instinct to carry the crowd along ( No, disrespect to 4×4 of Ghana, Sonti Ndebele of South Africa)
Overall, we think any event that can command a line up of this magnitude deserves applause. But saying that, we also think that particular attention needs to be paid to time artistes spend on stage because it is an easy invitation to bore people out, crowd control (we had more people in the auditorium than seating space) and Overall event timing (The event was way too long and too many artistes were on the line up).
The ovation red carol was one to remember and kudos to the ovation team for putting it together, we would be coming back next year.
