I don’t know about you but sometimes I get tired of listening to famous names in the Nigerian music scene. Whatever happened to variety is the spice of life? Wizkid, Davido, Tuface, BankyW, Eldee, 9ice the list gies on and on. While we enjoy all the songs of these succesful artistes, its always good to remember that there artistes out there that are as equally talent as well. Its obvious that Nigeria is filled with numerous talent but sometimes not having enough publicity can mean that an artiste, though taleneted, might not get the proper recognition they deserve.

It took me a year to come up with this list. I get hundreds of emails every year from up and coming artiste telling me to post their songs on websites, blogs and social media networks, but in all honesty very few meet the standard. I believe that in the music industry, many I called and few are chosen.

In this edition of Nigeria’s most underrated music talent, the artistes I choose were selected purely on merit and merit only. No favours, no kick backs or over hype. Just a selection made by an enthusiastic musical fan and critic. Enjoy NIGERIA’s MOST UNDERATED MUSIC TALENT. I hope they all blow in the nearest feature, because their talent deserves it!

 

Sammy

Nigerian R&B singer and songwriter Sammy makes it into the list for his beautiful voice that can match the best around the world. Solid, well grounded and talented, last year august, Sammy released  a brilliant mixtape titled A Mixtape & Then Some .

GREAT VOICE: Sammy voice on his mixtape will leave you catching the blues

Very few artistes make me listen to a full mixtape without pressing the skip button and I can confidently say that Sammy’s mixtape is among the few. I have not heard from him of recently, but I sincerely hope that he in the studio cooking up something that will lead to a classic first album.

Jarmeu

I met Jarmeu by accident in 2010 on a visit to Nigeria and since then I have fell in love with his music. I remember asking myself: “Why is he not signed to a major record label” when I saw him. Fortunately for him, Jarmeu is now signed to UK based label, Dee-R-S tunes.

PASSION: Jarmeu is a hit maker as an artiste and a producer

With four singles under his belt and unlimited songs in his catalogue (Trust me, I have heard some unreleased material), Jarmeu who not only sing but produces and writes songs is set to be the next best thing in the Nigerian Music scene. You can sense it in the passion in his voice when he sings that he means business and on a typical day, Jarmeu is always in the studio making classic hits. For his determination and rare talent. Jarmeu definitely made the list!

Ms Jaie

Raised in the UK but definitely in tune with her Nigerian culture, Ms Jaie has released a couple of songs that highlights her massive talent.

ONE TO WATCH: There are no questions about Ms Jaie's talent

In a great testament to her good  she is, Ms Jaie has managed to feature the great Tuface Idibia on one of her singles titled Fall outta Love. Without a major album out yet, I have to say this is a massive achievement.  Ms Jaie has released numerous singles which includes Korrect Guy, J.A.I.E, The one, Kilopoppin and Fall Outta Love. For a natural voice and powerful lyric, Ms Jaie makes the list.

Labzy Lawal

Without a doubt, Labzy lawal is ultra talented. You have to listen to the Solitary EP album to confirm this. But just like many underrated artiste, popularity that comes with a talent of his magnitude is not there.

Unique, versatile and blessed with superb punch lines, Labzy lawal is a Nigerian rapper with a world class talent. Songs such as Takarawa, We are awesome, She Gat it shines more light on the potential and the ability of this up and coming rapper

INTELLECTUAL RHYMER: Labzy lawal's album, The Solitary EP is a classic.

Very few artistes have the ability to make a local dialect sound nice on a mordern day hip hop beat, Material Elegbeje ado bettwer known as Material has perfect this art with confidence. His first mixtape titled THE UNDISPUTED was released in 2010 and it recieved good reviews from musical critics all over.
