I Hate Bloggers

by Edij Opidal on June 1, 2012

Actually I don’t hate bloggers! Hate is such a strong word and hate denotes a hint of Jealousy! Jealousy in my opinion is a weak emotion and I tend to stay clear of it.

So let’s leave out that part that makes me look like I am gunning for your spot or I am afraid that you will take mine. Yes, I am talking to you, you the blogger or about to-be blogger reading this!

I know you have a space online, everyone does these days. The accessibility and cheapness of the internet means that you can start a blog now if you want to. It does not take rocket science or much technical skills to set up a Facebook Fan Page or Twitter Page.

But this trend has come with its downsides, hopeless web romantics hoping to get the slash of the pie through attention seeking techniques. Endless posts on peoples walls on Facebook and constant tweets that adds no value, I see these things every day.

And am Serious!!!!

Who cares if you have a Facebook or Twitter account  full of rhetoric’s! Those horrible YouTube videos won’t go viral because you had seconds to get someone’s attention but you could not, because the video was all about you and your brand.

What’s the point I making here? The point I am making is that in any field, there is the right way and the wrong of doing things. The way that has been tested and yield results should be embraced if one wants to make progress. Unfortunately, I see a lot ignorance bouncing around these days online. I see people trying to set up an image through blogs and they get it wrong because they always do the obvious.

Don’t get me wrong I have thread that path before, I used to be ignorant about a lot of things.

blogging I Hate Bloggers

If this was a tweet it would piss off a lot of people

I used to promote, promote and promote online. Yes! Me, me, me, but the more I did that, the more the popularity of my brand declined. That was when it dawned on me that today’s social web only rewards those who offer value by caring for others.

So you have a blog, please do me a favour, do more than just  writing posts and pasting your links on walls across the internet.

You want to build a fan page on Facebook, do more than just inviting all your friends on Facebook and clamouring for fans.

You need more followers on twitter, do more than just asking for follow backs.

Stop sending tweets from your twitter to your Facebook fan page, they are two different social media platforms that needs different strategies.

Create value and see your own value increase. Isn’t it a wonderful thing that the more you help others the more your own prosperity is taken care of?

In this new age, don’t just start a blog, instead, know what people are looking for, discover where they interact and join in the conversation. Get to find out what moves people and circle your brand around that. Be proud of the web and the platforms that make it more social, read books about Twitter, Facebook and any other social media platform or tool. Learn to be part of a web that is becoming more social.

I will hold no apology for writing this piece, this is because I strongly and passionately believe in every sentence written in this article.

So after reading this, you will belong to two categories.  You will either hate me or love me! At the end of the day, it wouldn’t matter what choice you make. I have aired my opinion, now it’s time to give yours in form of a comment.  I am a scholar of the web, let me learn from you through the comments your leave below.

I am hoping you didn’t catch feeling Jide but there is 60-40% chance that you did as you left a comment on one of Facebook wall posts and disappeared to write this… LOL  Ver funny.

I’d normally ignore a post like this but you are my LBFF (London Buddy for Life), Abiola is my friend and I consider Amebor a sister platform to NollywoodExpress.com which is not operated as a blog but an aggregate as I shared with Abiola already.  It credits it’s sources with backlinks anyway.

And yes, you darn skippy, it is all to off course indirectly or directly promote our brands for any and/or all forms of revenue.  What are we running here?? charity???.  BUT…What are we friends for if not to educate ourselves right?I am glad you acknowledged that you are a web scholar.  That’s accurate.  But remember it’s called a “WEB”.  The beauty of it is that Facebook, twitter and even WordPress (open source code that your blogpost here is published on) give you option to opt out of any streams of information you don’t want to be exposed to on the web itself if its off no value to you.For example, if someone is not my friend or fan on Facebook, they won’t see my wall posts on their news feed and if they do, they can “unlike” or “de-friend” anytime they want.  Also, if they don’t interact with my profile enough, with the way Facebook EdgeRank algorithm works, my wall post won’t show in their top news feeds.  Likewise, if they are not following my twitter profile, they won’t see my tweets in their timeline.  If the system is not fair, the FTC and/or FCC won’t allow this things you know.  Although It’s only fair to say some things  are still being debated but that’s all it is and NOT illegal. There is a reason why Facebook and Twitter allows you to sync together tweets and statuses, won’t you agree?  There is a reason why they allow hyperlinks in those things, won’t you agree? What is of value to you may not be to the other person, won’t you agree?  EXACTLY!  Actually, I got here by way of syndicated tweets by 3 of you affiliated twitter accounts… hmm… LOLSee Jide when you see ignorance such as Kim Kardashian or Snookie bouncing around as we do now, you are in a position to explore the underlining reason and not be too quick to write a post.  Do some more research as you advised, explore why the hell dumb ass Kardashian just signed a $60 million deal and Oprah’s network (OWN) is going bankrupt. We are all students.. we need to continue to learn.  As you can see, most of the things I just wrote are facts and very little of my opinion.  In fact, the only opinion I have supports what you said.  Let’s not be quick to start Blogging because Abiola does, let’s NOT be too quick to disclaim titles when we catch feeling.  Let’s just keep studying.Let’s study why the hell we are talking about this subject on a blog called Amebor.com while you could be busy GBEBORUN kiri on what D’Banj and Tonto Dikeh is up to.. LOL.  Let’s explore why you felt the way you felt when you saw my facebook wall post that inspired you to write this blog post.  Isn’t that interesting?  I am fascinated my friend.So.. please no more Title disclaiming.  You can remain the blogger, Abiola can be the Social Media Guru and I can remain Tux the Marketing Don.I love you man…. LOL
