Paul Ado Bayero, the Grandson of the Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, has revelaed in an interview that he is now a convert to the Christian religion.

Nigeria’s main militant group in the oil-rich Niger River delta said it’s planning more attacks after it damaged a pipeline belonging to a unit of Italy’s Eni SpA. The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta said in an e-mailed statement today that the Feb. 4 attack affected 200,000 barrels a day. Rome-based Eni said yesterday it lost “around 4,000” barrels per day of “equity production” from the incident. The pipeline carries crude to an export terminal in the coastal town of Brass, about 250 kilometers (155 miles) southwest of the oil-industry hub of Port Harcourt, said MEND’s spokesman, Jomo Gbomo.

MEND said that in the next few weeks it would carry out “major attacks on oil installations to demonstrate to the world the helplessness of oil companies and the Nigerian military.”

Attacks by MEND and other militant groups in the Niger delta, home to Nigeria’s oil industry, cut the nation’s crude output by more than 28 percent from 2006 to 2009, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Disruptions eased after thousands of fighters, seeking a greater share of oil revenue for the region’s inhabitants, laid down their weapons and accepted an official amnesty. MEND refuses to disarm, saying the government hasn’t met its demands for control of the delta’s oil.

Nigeria is Africa’s top oil producer and the fifth-biggest source of U.S. crude imports. Royal Dutch Shell Plc, Exxon Mobil Corp., Chevron Corp., Total SA and Eni run joint ventures with the state oil company Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. that pump more than 90 percent of the country’s crude. The Nigerian military has identified eight people who sabotaged the pipeline and they aren’t backed by the MEND leadership, spokesman Colonel Timothy Antigha said today in an e-mailed statement.

“For the avoidance of doubt, people who were the leadership of MEND are not responsible members of society, having accepted the amnesty,” he said.

They were fleeing the Boko Haram attacks in the north but little did they know that death was waiting for them in the south. Report reaching us say, six persons including the head of a family, his wife, three children and their house-maid died in an auto accident while fleeing from their residence in Damaturu, Yobe state.

The victims have been identified as members of Steven Offia’s family from Enugu state.  They were crushed to death by a trailer while returning to Enugu on Tuesday to escape  attacks by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram. The private car driven by the deceased Offia (the family head) was said to have collided with a trailer coming from the opposite direction at Otukpa in Benue State. Reports say steven, his wife Nneka, four children (three boys and one girl) as well as their house maid were involved in the fatal auto crash.

In a statement, a member of the family by the name of Ben said:

”We were shocked to hear from the police on Wednesday that our brother and his family members perished in an accident that occurred within Otukpa in Benue State while fleeing the North on account of the violent attacks by Boko Haran”

The only survivor of the crash was the second son of the family, Chibuzor. He survived the crash, but is in critical condition at a hospital in Benue state.

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered that a Nigerian, Rasheed Mustapha, be extradited to the United States of America for allegedly stealing $798,907.62 (N125.3m) in that country. The verdict came after a lot of drama between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Mustapha, who through his counsel, Joseph Nwabike, fought the extradition order. Nwabike had argued that the court was not competent to hear the extradition charge. He added that he could not be extradited because of the alleged offences, more so, when the offences were not against any Nigerian law.

The office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, which filed the extradition order on behalf of the EFCC, had explained in the order that, “… a request has been made to Nigeria by a diplomatic representative of the Embassy of the United States of America, Abuja, for the surrender of Rasheed Abayomi Mustapha who is jointly a subject of a superceding indictment in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, Case Number: 08-CR-429 and filed on the 31st day of October, 2011.”

EXTRADITED: Rasheed Mustapha is to be extradited to the USA for defrauding the country of $780,000

Some of the charges against Mustapha in the USA include, “Conspiracy to violate the laws of the United States, in violation of Title 18, United States code, Section 1349, namely mail fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment. Mail fraud, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1341 and Title 18, United States Code, Section 2.”

The letter had added that each count was punishable by a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment. In her ruling, Justice Patricia Ajoku dismissed the preliminary objections, stating that based on the Nigerian constitution, the court was competent to decide the extradition of the accused person.

She subsequently said the accused person should be extradited to the US to face the charges. Ajoku also faulted the accused person’s argument that the offences were not known to the Nigerian laws. EFFC Acting Head of Media, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said from the commission’s investigation, Mustapha and his collaborators conspired to steal $798,907.62 in distribution cheques.

He said, “Of that amount, $750,651.48 was actually issued and deposited into bank accounts controlled by members of the syndicate. The sum of $500,000 was withdrawn and distributed between Mustapha and his group.

“Mustapha, 37, had returned to Nigeria after allegedly committing the crime in the United States. However, collaboration between the EFCC and the FBI led to his arrest by the operatives of the EFCC in May last year.”

The brazen man is yet to be identified by police, despite his face being clearly captured as he nabbed the security camera from a hospital in California.
