MHF Charity Banquet

In 2007, MHF kicked off in Ibadan Nigeria by sponsoring 15 children, and by 2008,MHF expanded its scope to rehabilitation of public school classrooms andlaboratories in addition to 25 more sponsorships for children in the public
school sector, and 10 children from an HIV/AIDS orphanage in Uganda. In 2009, in addition to the continuation of the sponsorships for the children
in Uganda and Nigeria, we announced our intent to build libraries to give more students access to quality books and education material. In doing this, we will be able to reach more children and educate more minds.

In December 2010, MHF as, as announced, have added 2 major library projects to our goals in 2 cities namely Lagos State, and Akoko-Edo State in Nigeria to be able to enhance the education experience of more children. Furthermore, MHF will be rolling out “Operation Growth”, a program that will
encourage youth in hygiene and self esteem.

UNIHIV-HIV/AIDS Movie Premiere for ‘Rebirth’, Chicago, IL

Chicago, Il – July 24, 2010. Nigerians in Chicago experienced a ‘rebirth’ on Saturday, July 24th when UNIHIV, Project Inc, Naija Fitness, and Producer/Director Bolanle Ninalowo premiered the movie REBIRTH for the first time ever.

The movie was about HIV/AIDS and the realities of this disease in Nigeria and in Nigerian relationships. It starred an all African cast of Elebeli Elebua, Tuvi James, Ngozi Ezenou, and Ada Fergusen, and educated the audience on the importance of better sex practices and the importance of getting tested.

After the movie, director/producer, Bolanle Ninalowo who has vested interest in promoting HIV/AIDS awareness and has donated time and effort to the HIV/AIDS and African communities held a question and answer session where he spoke to the attendees about why he put the movie together. He along with Project Inc founders, Hassan Ninalowo and Ugo Asiegbu, were presented an award of excellence for service to HIV Awareness by UNIHIV.

Project Inc and UNIHIV came together to highlight Ninalowo as well as the message behind his movie. In addition, UNIHIV handed out 200 red condoms at the event as part of their 10K RED Campaign, as well as educational materials to educate Chicago-area residents about HIV/AIDS prevention.

“Many times we are shown those affected by HIV/AIDS in Eastern and Southern Africa well after their families have been torn apart by the disease, and/or when they have succumb to full blown AIDS. Here, Ninalowo talks about the effects of the disease at the time of infection, the social and economic impact, the stigma that needs to be removed and the hope for those infected.”-Angel Adelaja, Co-founder/Director of Operations UNIHIV

The Chicago based Nigerians definitely came out to show support for this event and show their support for such a great cause. Promoters such as Fanzi, and Wale Spinero were out as well as the Nigerian DJs Coalition including the popular DJ DeeMoney, DJ Diesel, and DJ Fineboy, who also spun at the after-party.

The afterparty was at Mahoney’s Pub and Grille and people were still talking about the movie as they arrived ready to party. Here’s what one person had to say to as they were interviewed entering the afterparty venue…

Event Description: On Friday July 16, MUI|PR launched a diverse collection of African art forms in Music, Fashion and Art photography. The affair, the first of its kind in New York City (NYC), was leveraged to discredit misconceptions, generalizations, and stereotypes surrounding Africa by introducing the works of Africans and that which they communicate.

In keeping with the ethos and motivation of MUI|PR, the affair introduced a meeting of style, photography, and music from the African perspective, but geared towards the global community. It featured performances and displays by the following established emerging talents:

Visual art display by Wole Onafowora, proprietor of NYC-based Rookie Photography;
Couture and ready-to-wear designs by DC-based Kreatif Designs, Philadelphia-based Roshe Dousuah and Chicago-based Studio Alade;
Live performances by two of Kenya’s musical geniuses, Kanja “the African King” and Sheilla “Safari” Ankwara.

In one night, these three groups of art professionals immersed attendees in Africa through their own eyes, ears and aesthetic sensibilities while fueling dynamic exchanges within and without.

Music To Your Ears | AFRISONORE DMV LAUNCH

African music has a new home, its name is Afrisonore. The latest addition to the African music entertainment landscape launched its platform in dynamic fashion at Washington, DC’s exquisite K Street Lounge, and Amebor was on board for this highly anticipated launch. Afrisonore is a multi functional website, profiling African music and connecting audiences worldwide. The site represents the vision of Harvard Graduate Ike Anyaoku, an entrepreneur who believes in the cultural potency of African music. Ike saw the need for a tool which can be utilized for not only promotional means by African artists, but also as a public forum and entertainment outlet for consumers.

The Beautiful Afrisonore Models

The Afrisonore launch party featured a red carpet with numerous chic and cosmopolitan Africans and African music enthusiasts alike, including Ghanaian R&B recording artist, Koby Maxwell, and Nollywood Director and Producer, Chima. One of the coolest features of the night for us was the display of their mobile application, which they claim will take African music to new heights allowing their listener to discover new music, listen to their favorite artist and create playlists all at the click of the fingertips. Afrisonore came on the scene with a bang. There are no doubts that this is one company gaining a lot of traction in the music entertainment world. We are looking forward to hearing more about this company in the very near future.

After a fun-filled afternoon out in the park for the Nigerian Reunion Picnic, guests headed back to their rooms to get ready and dolled up for the Pre-Independence Day party at club Amazura in Queens. Upon arriving, we weren’t shocked to see the long lines and eager participants ready to get their dance on. Sounds were produced by DJ Zimo. Shout outs to NRC for a nicely set party. GHANA THE SOLE SURVIVOUR

The first round of the world cup finally came to an end on Friday 25th of June and as it stands, Ghana is the only African team to remain in the tournament. Narrowly losing to Germany in their last group game did not cause Ghana to crash out of the tournament. Cameroon, the first African team to reach the quarterfinals of a world cup final became the first African country to be booted out of the tournament. Arsenal’s Nikolas Bentdner was a catalyst in their dismissal as he set up one and scored another to send the indomitable lions out of the tournament.

Ivory Coast, one of Africa’s brightest prospects was also eliminated as they could not manage to score 9 goals against the North Koreans and Brazil could not beat Portugal. The Ivoirians were impressive in their first game against Portugal but their inability to beat the Portuguese and their 3-1 loss to Brazil meant they missed out on a second round ticket despite beating the South Koreas in their last game.
Despite losing their first two games, the Super Eagles of Nigeria would have made it to the second round if they could beat South Korea in their final group game. But inspite of leading with an early goal scored by Kalu Uche, Nigeria failed to beat South Korea. Perhaps the highlight of the tournament for the Nigerian team would be the red card of Sani Kaita against Greece and Yakubu Aiyebgeni’s unbelievable miss against South Korea. The miss which has been hailed as the miss of the tournament so far, saw Yakubu Aiyegbeni miss a chance to score with just an open goal to beat.

Algeria, the only North African side to qualify for the tournament this year also lost to USA with a last minute goal scored by Michael Donavan. A loss to Slovenia and a scoreless draw with England meant that the Desert foxes of Algeria finished bottom of their group with only one point and no goals scored. Algeria’s loss to USA was further marred by an incident that saw Rafiki Saifi slap a female Algerian Journalist. The incident has raised concerns and FIFA has promised to look into the issue.
Ghana plays USA in the next few hours and we hope that by the time you read this article an African team has made it to the quarterfinal of the world cup for the third time in History.

Women’s World Cup | LadyBee’s Diary

So the World Cup has started and millions of women around the world have had no choice but to succumb to the arrival of their men’s quadrennial mistress, but hey look on the bright side, she’s only here for a month. Easy for me to say as I have no one. Well, there is Teju but he’s about as useful as having no one. He can’t make his mind up whether he’s leaving or staying, coming round when it most suits him. Lately, I’ve refused to entertain him, as I’ve grown bored of him.

I never thought I for one would even look at a match but have you seen the players? Besides work, I’ve had these beautiful creatures adorn my TV screen and occupied most of my free time. Watching their strong legs run around the pitch, displaying amazing control of their balls (and by that , I mean the spherical thing they kick about – get your mind out of the gutter) and the way their asses jiggle when playing….oh Lord, help me. I’ve even chosen a few off the Brazilian squad who would make good baby daddies.

I was particularly hoping for a good WC. I was hoping Nigeria will, if not win, at least save face and make it to the quarter-finals. False hope. I was at an all-time high in the run-up to the world’s biggest sporting tournament but its outcome so far has done nothing good for my health. In the match against Greece, what did I not do with the super pigeons? I kicked the imaginary ball that Uche passed to me specifically, directed the other players to the opponents’ post, my legs controlling the ball, creating play tactics and goal opportunities for my ‘team mates’; my face the epitome of sheer determination and in my mind, I would definitely have scored the goal Obasi missed had I been let on the pitch. My heart’s shattered into a million pieces, my voice has gone on strike and I’m mentally exhausted from 90 minutes of disappointment. You can see what the WC has done to yours truly. In short, I give up. Oh well! Like they say, the show must go on….with or without Nigeria

Shout out to my sisters out there. Especially the ones whose interest in the WC developed as a result of trying to get their men’s attention. Let me save you the time and effort and a jail sentence ‘cause you’ll end up killing him if after trying your best, his attention is still entirely devoted to the WC matches. So let me give you some pointers that will release your man from the complete hold the WC has on him. But that’s not to say he’d be completely free, you still have to share him with a couple of men he has an unfathomable admiration for and keep him on his toes, literally.

1. First of all, go learn the rules of football. You might think it’s cute but it’s actually annoying if you don’t know that the box 18 is a sensitive area for men.

2. Refrain from asking questions. It annoys them if they have to steer their glare away from the screen during a match in order to explain to you that when the linesman raises his flag, it’s an off-side

3. Don’t ask what an off-side is. Google it.

4. Hurl insults at the opponents no matter how fine/cute/sexy they are. And yeah, avoid calling them cute to his hearing.

5. Do invite his friends over to watch the match, but none of their girlfriends. Stock up on beer and junk food.

6. Don’t try to get all mushy during a match, you just might suffer an unlucky elbow jab meant for the ’clearly biased’ ref to your face in the heat of the moment. Trust me, not worth it.

7. Leave him alone when his team is losing. Don’t try to comfort him, you’d never succeed! According to him, you’d never understand. Just the same way you don’t understand why he’s got a picture of 11 men in Arsenal jerseys as his screen saver. Completely leave him alone. Go shop online or something!

And lastly,

8. Don’t try and watch the WC with him. Reason being you’ll see him in his most unflattering form and might just lead you to question what you ever saw in him in the first place.

Hope you have a happy WC. Mine’s ruined anyways.

Kaita's Red card cost Nigeria against Greece

Nigeria midfielder Sani Kaita has reported that he received death threats after his sending-off in the 2-1 Group B loss to Greece. Nigeria was leading when Kaita kicked Vasileios Torosidis on the touchline.

Kaita was shown a red card and Nigeria went on to concede two goals to put their qualification bid for the knockout stage hanging by the thread. Kaita confirmed that after the match he had received a number of threats in his email box.

Sani Kaita reacts in astonishment after getting sent off. Now he is receiving death threats.

‘Yes, I have received some threats to my life, they were sent to my email but I’m not disturbed about that because as a Muslim, only God decides who lives and who dies. Everything on this Earth is in God’s hands, whether it is your life or whatever and unless God allows it, no-one has the power to kill me.

A research by the Amebor team has revealed that Sani Kaita’s page has been littered with insults by irate fans. On the day the match was played various viral messages had been circulating on the Blackberry messenger network.

Kaita has admitted to having sleepless nights after the incident and said he can’t stop apologising for Nigerians for making a costly mistake.

Siasia to coach Swaziland?

Former Nigerian U-20 and Olympic team coach, Samson Siasia has applied to coach Swaziland, a small country in the South African region. The Swazi Football Association started the process of getting a new coach for the Shilangu when the erstwhile handler, Ephraim ‘ Shakes ‘ Mashaba, left to coach the South African U-23 team. According to the President of Swaziland’s Football Association, Adam Mthethwa, a lot of coaches including a respected English soccer tactician and Samson Siasia have dropped their CV’s for the vacant post.

Samson Siasia led Nigeria to a Silver medal finish 2years ago at the Beijing Olympics

Siasia, who led the Flying Eagles to a disastrous outing at the U-20 World Cup in Egypt last year has been aggressive in his search for a new job. Before throwing his hat into the ring concerning the Swaziland vacancy, Siaone as he is fondly called, had applied to coach the Liberian and Zambian national teams. He lost out in the battle for both positions. Siasia, who played 43 international matches for Nigeria with 13 goals to his credit, was also touted as a potential handler of Bolton Wanderers FC of England in early 2009. This was due to the sterling performance of the Olympic squad he led to Beijing 2008. Football analysts and fans have also wondered why Bayelsa born Siasia was not deployed to assist Super Eagles coach, Lars Lagerback, at this year’s World Cup. With the vacancy in swasiland open for grabs, there might just be hope for him in the southern tip of Africa.
