Meet UZIKWENDU!! The fastest rapper in AFRICA! In this world of diminishing returns we need more celeb role models like him. I am still in awe of his humility, intelligence and positive mind set despite his celeb status. He has been able to carve out a niche for himself in the ‘cut throat’ music industry. He is a younger brother to Ikechukwu otherwise known as kilz!….HIS NAME IS UZIKWENDU!! This interview was conducted by Ngozi Helen Nwokoye of http://www.ngozigold.blogspot.co.uk/

NGOZI: Who is Uzikwendu?

UZI : Uzi is a collected, fun loving , business minded & goal oriented type of guy. I am from Imo state,I was born in London, but I was raised in Nigeria till I was 18 then I moved to New York to attend college.

NGOZI: At what point did u develop interest in rap music and what or who influenced that interest?

UZI: When I was about ten or eleven i used to travel a lot with my dad whom at that time had a lot to do with traditional type of music & dancing, so from listening, watching and participating I guess it influenced me a lot.

NGOZI: Did your family support you when you started? How about now?

UZI: I have a wonderful family, God rest my father’s soul but I thank GOD cause I get all the support & encouragement I need from them.

NGOZI: You are the fastest Rapper in Africa! I stand to be corrected!!Ur Rap style is different! What or who is ur inspiration and how do u rap so fast without biting your tongue?

UZI: *Hahaha!! Biting my tongue? Thats funny, that’s never happened to me when i am rapping but funny enough its happened when I am eating. Me rapping fast is just one side of who I am, I also rap slow & sing.

NGOZI: Which artistes will u like to work wit internationally and locally? And why

UZI: Busta rhymes ,Eminem , Akon, Tuface, Tiwa Savage, Sound Sultan, Eldee & any other very good & fantastic artiste.

NGOZI: Hmmmm! What has been your highest and lowest points in music so far and what lessons did u get from those experiences

UZI: My highest point was when I got on stage & the crowd was singing my songs and the moral of the story was “keep doing good music ” and as for my lowest hmmmmmn”!! well I did something I shouldn’t have done, I performed a song that I just recorded and I hadn’t practiced it, wow!! when I got on stage I didn’t remember all the words! Even though many did not notice ,It was still my lowest point and I learnt my lesson! Lol

NGOZI: The track ’Osiso’ meaning faster in Ibo is very addictive!! Do u think impatience is a virtue ? Are u impatient like the title suggests?

UZI: Not at all o!! lol. I am a very patience guy . I play chess & you got to have a lot of patience to win a chess game. I also do a lot of meditating. Good things come to you when you wait patiently but “OSISO” speaks a lot for itself if you know what i mean ..lol!

NGOZI: Do u speak ibo fluently? Because you have ‘Oyibo accent’!

UZI: Hmmm I speak Ibo, honestly, not as good as I want to but It’s getting better & better so watch out!! As for the Oyibo accent ..lol .It is not intentional

NGOZI: The video ‘Osiso’ is pleasing to the eyes! Great quality and different! I think the industry is tired of unentertaining music videos that have nothing to offer apart from semi naked girls shaking everything they were born with! Who came up with the concept and what difficulties did u encounter while shooting the video

UZI : The video OSISO was directed by Walter banger & Gambit , BANGER SOUP & he came up with the concept & I choreographed the action fight scenes. I have a background in mixed martial arts so I put it to use!

NGOZI : Apart from music what other interests do you have? And are you currently pursuing any?

UZI : Going to the gym & changing peoples lives by helping people achieve their fitness goals. Don’t get me wrong , I am also interested in making money ,lol

NGOZI : If you were not in the music industry what will u be doing?

UZI : I would be learning more in martial arts and teaching ‘mix matial arts’ for self defence and also opening up some gyms.

NGOZI: You are a woman’s eye candy!! (you’ re blushing! lol) ! Handsome and you have a great body! How do you maintain it?

FAST RYHMER: Uzikwendu's fast rapping is building a reputation for him in the Nigerian Music industry

UZI : Well, I wouldnt know if I am a woman’s eye candy ,hahaha !! but working out is like a tradition for me ,I love testing and pushing myself.

NGOZI : How many tattoos do you have and do they have any significance or story?

UZI : 25 tattoos and every detail on my skin tells a story ,for example, I have one that says “LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE”!! That’s my motto and that’s how I live my life.!

NGOZI : Do you think someday soon a Nigerian artiste will bring home a Grammy!

UZI : YES and that person would be ME ,say AMEN with me! Lol

NGOZI: How do you think Piracy in the entertainment industry can curbed! We even heard from the grape vine that artistes now pirate their own work

UZI : Honestly the only thing I can say is PIRACY is a sin! lol .Funny yea? But it’s not right cheating and ripping people off after their hard work and I am sure Nigerians would definitely come together to put a stop to this wickedness.

NGOZI : The insecuirity in the country has gotten to an alarming rate! How do u think it will affect the growth of the entertainment industry in Nigeria and do you have any advise for our President ?

UZI : If the country is not secured and people die every day, properties are stolen and everyone is unhappy ,how can we sell our music? I think the President has to make some decisions for the good of Nigerians.

NGOZI : What advise do u have for upcoming rappers in Africa?

UZI: Make good music, be true to yourself, try to be at the right places at the right time and work extra hard and with prayers that great opportunity will come your way, because I know the music business ain’t easy at all. But keep your heads up & you will surely get there..

NGOZI : Finally! where do you see yourself in the next 5yrs?

UZI : I see me still making great music and having my own record label, maybe a gym and having a great team and helping the many upcoming talented artists ,now let’s get another AMEN to that!

NGOZI : AMEN & AMEN!! Thanks so much for your time!!

Both industry power-weights have been at loggerhead over alleged multiple financial disagreements, discrepancies involved in the signing of artist Dbanj into Kanye West’s Good Music record label, Don Jazzy’s lackadaisical attitude, Dbanj’s alleged public irresponsibility among other differences and conflicts that popped up between both.

“I want to be clear on something that I’m not interested in going into the debates of whatever Dbanj has said, be it through an interview, the press, social media or whatever. People should try and understand that these are very difficult moments for me and I need my space, time and moment to carry on with my life and the production of good music which is what fans have known me for a very long time”. Don Jazzy said.

The iconic producer, whose famous introvert and quiet lifestyle and personality as garnered him an enviable amount of fame, respect and magnanimous swag in Nigeria’s entertainment scene, staunchly dismissed claims by Dbanj buying houses, cars and properties for the Mo’hits boss and fellow artists, calling it “laughable and not worth responding to this early morning” claiming that quick thinking fans know his individual worth and personal financial worth of each artist at Mo’hits.

“When this whole thing started, I felt people needed to know what’s happening and in all civility, maturity and wisdom, I made those less than 140 words tweet in 3 separate lines, now see where it has led me to. Mohits is a family and Dbanj is like its son and families do quarell. Expecting me to come out and start countering accusations by one of my best friends ever while accusing him also in the process doesn’t justify my guilt or my innocence or that of his, He (Dbanj) however has a right to his opinion to grant interviews to whoever he wishes to grant interview to, I won’t stop him and won’t stop anyone who wants to believe whatever he says either”, he said.

The rest of the interview can be read Here

I don’t know about you guys, but I am getting tired of these two and their drama.

Amebor recently had the opportunity to catch up with Big Boyz Entertainment’s very own Lil’Miss, a.k.a Lara Fawumi. She dishes on her career, her family, her record label, and even her plans for the future. She was recently featured as the voice of the chorus in “Sen Gbomi”, a single including some of her record label mates, with cameos from Ice Prince and Jesse Jagz. Starting her career at quite a tender age, Lil Miss has already established a name for herself, and hopes to be recognized not just in Nigeria, but globally. Check out the interview below.

To start off, tell us a bit about yourself. Who is Lil Miss, and what inspired the name?

The name is Omolara Fawumi. The name “Lil Miss” was inspired by the way I look! If you’ve seen me face to face, you’d understand where the name is from. I’m quite tiny, body wise.

When did you realize that you had the ability to sing, and how long have you been singing/performing?

RErmmm, I’ve realized I could sing since I was young. Just never took it serious and I wasn’t confident enough to say I’ll go out on a platform to sing by myself until JJC found me! It’s been two years now.

What/who inspires you?

Every artiste out there inspires me, one way or the other. The people around me, things going on around me, things happening in my life, all these things inspire me.

What did your parents think about your decision to venture into music?

Like every other parent, education comes first. So they didn’t take it too well. But it is what I love so I’ve been having to make double the effort to convince them. Not by words, but by action. When they see I’m doing well for myself musically and educationally, they won’t have a choice but to agree.

Tell us a bit about your label, and how you were initially signed to Big Boyz Entertainment. What is your relationship like with the rest of the artists on the label?

Well I was the first to get signed to Big Boyz, and I was discovered by JJC when I auditioned for voice on a supposed to be TV program called “tunnel vision”. I went to JJC’s studio and did what I could. The TV program didn’t happen anymore, but my career as Lil Miss kicked off from there! My very first song was EREN (erase, replace, embrace, new face). We recorded it that same day as a trial and then put it out on YouTube. We got positive vibes and well I guess things happened from there.

Big Boyz is quite a big label, but I see everyone else within it as family. We’re all different people, similar age range, but we maintain respect. We have our silly little fights, but it doesn’t get out of hand. We all connect so well, so its not so hard dealing with each other.

How do you respond to “haters” and/or constructive criticism?

I’m open to constructive criticism, it’ll only help develop me as an individual and also as an artiste, so I embrace it, whether positive or negative. And I’ve sort of learned to develop a thick skin to haters. Its always bound to happen whether you are doing something right or wrong; I won’t let it get to me.

We know that in the most recent video/ single you were featured in, “Se n Gbomi” you worked with Ice Prince; we also saw a cameo from Jesse Jagz. Please explain to us how that came about. What was it like working with the Choc Boys?

Well the Choc Boyz were in town, and it just happened! Ice prince and Wizkid came to the studio and we played the instrumental to “Sen Gbomi” for Ice. He was feeling the beat, and bless God, he jumped on the track! Massive thanks to Phoenix Media and Cokobar.

Now, do you normally differentiate between Lara and Lil Miss? Are there things that Lil Miss would do that Lara perhaps wouldn’t do?

Lara is Lil’ Miss! I’m loud, crazy, funny, bubbly, silly, annoying, call it anything. If you’ve met me as Lara or Lil’ Miss, you’d know there’s no difference.

We also know that you recently released a single titled “Leave me alone”, and it is common knowledge that the song addresses guys who are fond of disturbing the ladies. Our question, (being that we are AMEBOR) is: what characteristics would a guy who wants to “toast” Lil Miss need to have?? In simpler terms, what/ who is your Ideal guy?

My ideal guy is every girl’s ideal guy; a guy capable of loving and understanding a woman’s words and silence. God fearing, ambitious, respectful and all the other good qualities one can think of.

Tell us what inspired your song “Patewo”, and what the song means to you?

The song “Patewo” is about heartbreak, but funny enough I wasn’t heart broken when te song was recorded; it just happened. Heartbreak is something everyone experiences. It doesn’t necessarily have to happen through a relationship going wrong. We could get our hearts broken by friends, family, or loved ones. And “Patewo” is talking about being strong after going through that phase. It’s about seeing positivity in a negative situation. Learning from bad experiences, I’ve learned from the song myself to see bad phases in life as blessings in disguise.

So when you are not making music, what do you do in your leisure time?

When I’m not making music, I’m either tweeting, (which is something I do a lot!) going out, shopping, reading, learning new things, movies, sleeping! Gosh, I love my sleep. Lol…. I’m living.

What struggles have you faced as an upcoming artist, and what advice would you give to other artist like yourself who perhaps are also facing similar struggles?

Music found me, and I’ve been blessed in so many ways. Its difficult mixing education and music together, and then having to deal with pressure from parents, friends, and even fans! It’s a crazy life, but with God, everything works out for good. My advice to others is to keep pushing. ‘Cos I know that I myself feel like giving up at times, but then I find the strength to carry on. I always remind myself that I want to look back at my life sometime and not regret a thing! I don’t just want to exist, I want to live. And if music is not your way of doing so, knock yourself out at it! God before and after all.

What should we expect from Lil Miss in the nearer feature? What are your goals/ aspirations?

My aspirations include getting on international platforms, getting recognized globally, and definitely I aspire to grow vocally and as an individual and many more things. In the nearer future, you’ll definitely be hearing more of me! My official video will be out soon; more collabos will be done, and new things are coming out. Just stay put!

Well there you have it ladies and Gents! Tell us what you think about Lil Miss’ interview, and don’t forget to check out some of her work below. Cheers!!

THE RING

ThenetnG conducted an interview with the artist as to why he made that decision. Check it out.

Of your three ‘baby mamas’, why Annie?

That’s where my heart led me to.

Why Valentine’s Day?

That’s when it happened. It just so happened to be the time I felt the need to make that move.

Considering that you have known her for such a long time and what has happened with you, with the women and the children, when did you decide to make the move?

It was part of my New Year resolution to follow my heart this year.

How did the thought come into your mind?

Like any other thought about something important. You start feeling the need to do something or go somewhere different from deep within. Then you just make your move one time. No shaking.

When do you plan to tie the knot?

We will let you know soon enough.

Why did it take you so long to finally make this decision?

I needed to get there, you know, reach the point wey e be say, gbagam! My mind, heart and everything dey ready. The timing for marriage should not be determined by any outside influence my guy. If you are not ready for it don’t commit to it because some people think you should.

Were you nervous before you popped the question?

Yes I was but I was sure of what I was doing.

What if she had turned down the offer?

Wow! I would have asked again.

Can you really be a one-woman man?

Na the journey I don start so now, abi?

What will change now that you are about to get married?

Everything that needs to change.

What is your relationship with the other mothers of your children?

Same at it has been all the while. Cordial mostly. I’ve still got respect for them because we have kids together.

Do you know their reaction to this decision?

I know it may be difficult if any one happens to still be attached emotionally but I can only hope they understand that that’s where my heart is.

Other women have been associated with you in the past five years. Pero, as a matter of fact, is expecting a third child for you soon. One would have expected that the woman with three children would be your option. Not that you owe it anyone, but can you explain the reason for your choice?

Wow! And someone else would say it should have been the mother of my eldest child. Another person will even argue that it should be the lady that has been with me for the longest time. These are matters of the heart. They can’t always be analysed like that. Sometimes you no fit analyse am at all sef.

Being that you had three women to choose from, at least seemingly, what it is about Annie that decided it for you?

My mind, my body, my soul, my heart chose her.

Now that you have decided to settle down with your ‘True love’, your ‘African Queen’, how will this affect your song writing?

It will add more inspiration.

Your next album drops very soon. Any chances of an ‘African queen II’ to celebrate your fiancée?

Yes o!

Who will perform at your wedding?

Certainly not me. A couple of my colleagues definitely.

We seriously hope that Tuface will stay faithful to this woman and we wish him all the best. Congratulations

“I didn’t get this from my father. My father is not a womanizer. That I know. I have never caught my father with another woman. He is very faithful to my mother. I am also not a womanizer. Yes it happens that I have more women in my life. It is the price I have to pay for being a star. I didn’t plan to have more than one woman in my life. I didn’t plan my life to be the way it is now but no regrets. I love my kids. Right now, I have three women in my life who have five kids for me (and expecting a 6th one) and I sincerely don’t know how I’m able to cope with three women. Fela had over two dozen wives but I’m not Fela. I can never be another Fela. I have three women but I’m saying a big NO to Fela’s kind of polygamy. I don’t even know what these women see in me. I used to look into the mirror sometimes and wonder what it is that they see in me.”

Help me out here guys. I mean, this guy obviously studied “Akpako knacking-ology” in school and I heard he even got a PHD in it , so how come he doesn’t see himself as a womanizer? I hate to break it to you hun, but you messed with more than one woman and that only means one thing – You are a womanizer! I’m still a big fan though ..

Amebor recently did an interview with NEA nominee for “most promising act to watch”, ZARA. We asked Zara some interesting questions that I am sure many of her fans out there will want to know. Check out the interview below, and the video for her latest single “Aboko Ku”.

1. To begin with, tell us how you got into music. And what/who would you say has been your biggest motivation so far?

My entrance into music was by “happenchance”. In the summer of 2006, my friend Keno Kenett pulled me into the studio to do back ups for him. In the process I did a rap verse and left it at that. Eldee the don heard the verse and told me to consider doing music because I sounded great. This was how I tapped back into “poetry writing me” of the past and worked with producer friends and started recording.

My biggest motivation so far is my love for creating, performing and my determination. I’m nowhere close to that artiste I would like to be and I work on it daily.

2. In the entertainment industry, and in any industry in general, one is bound to face certain struggles. What would you say has been your biggest struggle in the music industry?

I’m glad you note say struggle yaapa for life no be only entertainment industry.

I will say my biggest struggle has been maintaining that balance between work (which is my music) and everything in between. I am driven by my career but I try to make time for a personal life.

3. With fans of course comes people who don’t like your music, or what we call “haters”. How do you personally deal with critics and even “constructive criticism”?

Oh wow… I’ll tell you with all honesty, I don’t recognize “hate”. I understand that folk will always try to express themselves, and I believe they are free to. If they are being malicious in the process, it’s to ignore them and keep doing what I do, I’m down for constructive criticism as well but at day’s end, in regards to your creative work, the most important voices come from within. Even after ALL the professional input.

4. You were recently signed with Alapomeji Records, (9ice’s record label) but it came to our attention that you made the decision to leave the label. Can you tell us what went wrong with that deal?

Nothing went wrong with the deal. Business decisions were re-evaluated and we mutually agreed to part ways.

5. You also were recently nominated for the Nigerian Entertainment Award (NEA) as one of the most promising acts to watch. Explain to us what exactly this nomination/recognition means for you

The category “Most Promising Act to Watch” is a powerful one because it shows that my hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed. It also inspires me to achieve a LOT more. Promises are meant to be kept, and promising acts must to blow by God’s grace, Amen

6. And last but not least, what advice would you give to aspiring artists who also hope to be stars, not just in Nigeria, but on an International level?

Put God first, find humility if you don’t have it, believe in yourself, have a great team, and work work work!
