We are in the twenty-first century and I believe being “razz” is the new cool. So, if you are razz and proud, you will love this post! I chose to write a little about this individual because he is very talented. He got my attention the first time he made a fuji/afro juju remix to Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now.” I remember listening to that track while working out and I almost fell off the treadmill because I started dancing. As if that wasn’t good enough, he made another Fuji remix to this hit song “Racks on Racks” by Young Chris.

He recently released a Coupe Decale remix to “Motivation” by Kelly Rowland. When I heard about this track, I was kind of skeptical about it because I just couldn’t picture Kelly Rowland on a coup decale beat. Boy, was I in for a surprise! But enough of the small talk, here’s a brief bio about him.

His real name is Kunle Oluwadiya but we all know him as Kid Konnect. He was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. He fell in love with music at a young age, listening to reggae and classical music owned by his father, this help set the foundation for Konnect to learn the basics of composing music.

As he matured, so did his love and knowledge for all genres of music. When most of his classmates were reciting their favorite rhymes from various rap songs, he opted to pay attention to every aspect of the instrumental, from the loud kick or bass, to the carefully hidden echoes of the hihats. Kid Konnect left Nigeria for the United States in 2001 to pursue a degree in Business Economics (which he knew in his heart of hearts, was a career he didn’t want). While in school, Konnect’s roommate introduced him to music production software named FL Studio. At first making a whole lot of techno beats, Konnect dedicated himself to mastering the program in and out to produce industry worthy beats.

He has worked with several artists like Chiddy of Chiddy Bang (Parlophone/EMI), Rocky Diamonds (Universal Records), Beazy, X.O Senavoe, Modenine, Skales (EME), Lynxx, Show Dem Camp, Loose Kaynon, Chykay, Kemi Adetiba, Zara and many more. His other achievements are as follows: “The Masters” Baltimore Producer Grand Champion, Contrast Hall Beat Battle Champion, 3 time NEA Nominated Producer of the Year, Red Bull Big Tune Beat Battle participant, CrateKings.com Producer of the Month.

If you still don’t think being razz is cool, listen to the songs below

So I recently walked into a shop to hunt for a pair of shorts for my end of summer holiday and all of a sudden my eye spots the bra section of the women’s aisle. Now before you think I am a dude that indulges in cross dressing on the weekends, let me warn that my curiosity to check out the set of bras being sold in the store was borne out of my surprise to the fact that we have so many bra types.

The female anatomy is something the natural male instinct is attracted to. Safe for the ones who fancy doing their own sex (I am not against Gay people just saying) most men are fascinated by breasts.

Research would show that breast have many aliases – Boobs, knockers, jugs, hooters, Milkers, Titties, Youtubes. The list is endless! No matter what you call them it is hard deny our fascination with breasts.

I am not far from the truth when I say that a lot of these fashion companies understand that women are very conscious of their breasts. Abi how do you explain the fact that since Mo’ Cheddah’s flat tidies got exposed on twitter she has no sent a single tweet? Just check her Twitter Time line to see what I am saying.

Maximization is the key here Ladies

The signs are on the wall, surgery, perking skills; add some foam to the bra, silicon gels, women just want to appear to be “confident” in the chest area.

A couple of weeks ago, I was sitting next to a pretty black girl who I felt was beautiful by all standards. We were both seated with a group of individuals (five girls and 2guys including me) having a conversation when the topic of discussion somehow became the issue of boobs. This girl said she would definitely consider breast surgery. When I asked her why, she couldn’t give me a concrete answer but she however said she did not like her boobs.

“They look fine to me darling, perhaps they need a little bit of massaging.” I said

“You pervert” she chuckled

Yes I am a pervert, I am allowed to. I am man. But don’t put the blame all on me. Put part of the blame on these companies and TV stations that over sexualise the female breasts with endless bra types and ads.

O_o

An examination of the Bra lines at the shop I was talking about earlier revealed that they were well over 15 kinds of bras for sale. Where do we start from? Maximise Your Asset Bra, Your Ever Day Lace Bra, Smooth Bra, Lightweight Lux T-shirt Bra, Essential Strapless Bra and the list goes on and on… Ogini? Kilode? Anyways I have no comment on this issue anymore, just my two cents. And Yeah, someone Tell Waje or Dencia to Holla, I finally got their bra sizes

PS: Its breast cancer awareness month support a charity for cancer, support ours here http://www.facebook.com/JMLCancerFoundation

Fashion and style roam the streets! And at the blink of an eye, one can miss the impeccable detailing of a brooch, jacket, button or necklace.

With that assumption, Nonny Diana Chizea created ‘Nonny’s List’, an online Fashion Photography Blogazine dedicated to showcasing styles that concern Africa and fashion trends that may influence the African Fashion Industry. ‘Nonny’s List’ will also feature essays on the public discourse in the fashion industry, original fashion and style quotes from Nonny and much more!

Starting out in Lagos, Nigeria, the list provides a platform that is user friendly by showing real people in the act of fashion and style -unless otherwise noted, all pictures are taken by Nonny Diana Chizea.

While this blogazine is based in Nigeria, Africa, it is not restrictive in terms of content, featured people, race and location. Fashion and Style are universal languages. It is a very inclusive industry if you think about it.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Nonny Diana Chizea has lived in the U.K., U.S., Germany and France to name a few locations.

Nonny graduated from Hamilton College with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Dance and History of Art (Minor) and studied photography. She has studied Ceramic Art Theory, Film, Theatre and Choreography at New York University’s Steinhardt, Tisch and Gallatin Schools respectively.

While in college in New York, she founded and edited the first fashion page ‘HauteLife’ inThe Spectator publication. She collaborated with editors at Glamour (US), Harper’s BAZAAR, Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) and Retailing Today to publish a fashion lifestyle series on style, socio-cultural and gender issues.

Formed by two brothers, Meca and Menty, the group MECMEN has been displaying their skills to the musical world since 2007. MecMen, The group name, is a combination of the first three letters of their biological names

With a relaxed charisma embroiled in their personality, the two confessed: “We naturally love to entertain. A good smooth melody has always been our weakness and therefore it only made sense that we combine both our passions and make tunes.”

http://amebor.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Tonight-mastered1.mp3 DOWNLOAD

http://amebor.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/01-Be-like-Us.mp3 DOWNLOAD

Follow Mecmen on Twitter | More Music here | Watch ‘em on Youtube

Meca’s journey into music did not start the conventional way; instead he started as a poet, before transitioning his writing to music. Born on 5 June 1983 in Owerri, Imo State (eastern part of Nigeria) spent his childhood living around different continents before finally settling down in New Jersey in America.

Talking about his further sojourn into music, Meca says: “My gravitation to the music was inevitable. In the winter of 2006, I invested the vast majority of my down time in a basement studio learning the art. At that point music was like fire to my soul and consumed me beyond belief.”

Unlike his brother, Meca who was born in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, Menty was born in Ikeja, Lagos Southwest of Nigeria.

From a young age, Menty always had a passion for music. At age 10 he was surrounded by music, Menty had competed and won numerous dance-offs in the United Kingdom and was nick-named ‘Michael Jackson” because of his dramatic impersonation of the late Pop Icon. While in High school, he worked on developing his writing skills between him and his peers. They also compared their lyrical skills through rap battles that were organized by his fellow mates. With a growing recognition at his disposal, Menty had several opportunities to perform in social gatherings and house parties organized by him and his friends.

MecMen has been blessing us with their music as a group since 2007 and they have performed Opening for “Nigga Raw” in Houston, Texas (Aug 2010), Nigerian Independence Bash in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Oct 2010), Nigerian Independence Rahway, NJ (NRC) (Oct 2010), Nigerian Independence, Time Square, Manhattan NY (Oct 2010) and the SIS Socials, Brooklyn NY (Nov 2010). They have also collaborated with former Naijaboyz protégé, LP.

Known for his devastatingly vicious role as “Chris Partlow” on the much-loved HBO drama The Wire, Gbenga has once-again captured TV audience’s hearts as “Pastor Isaiah Easton” on CBS’ award-winning drama series, The Good Wife. Simultaneously, he will be appearing on the much anticipated third season of “Nurse Jackie” as the nurse that finally gives Jackie a run for her money.

Born in Washington, D.C. to Nigerian parents and raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, Gbenga was the first in a family of six to be born in the United States. In his early life, Gbenga and his siblings were shuffled around from shelters to different government assisted housing projects and constantly got into trouble. It was not until Gbenga fell in love with wrestling in high school and was recruited to wrestle in college, that his true colors began to show. Upon graduating, Gbenga began working for the government while researching the craft of acting in his free time. However, when his father passed away, he knew that it was time for a change so he quit his job and began acting full-time. Over the next few years, Gbenga took to the stage starring in such classics as Romeo and Juliet, Cyrano de Bergerac, Hambone, All in the Timing and Sophocles’ Trilogy of Oedipus.

Young, hungry, and used to being virtually self-reliant, Gbenga relocated to New York City where his raw talent was quickly noticed and began working on a little production called The Wire, which unknowingly became a smash hit for HBO. In a matter of months, Gbenga became one of the hottest young actors around, garnering the attention of numerous film producers and casting agents. Making his big screen debut opposite notorious actors Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Laura Linney in the award-winning, Oscar nominated independent film The Savages, Gbenga has proven his talent in the major movie blockbusters The Taking of Pelham 123alongside John Travolta and The Edge of Darkness opposite Mel Gibson. Most recently, Gbenga joined the star-studded cast, including Terry Crews, Ice Cube and Bow Wow in the Warner Bros comedy Lottery Ticket.

Gbenga has also led a flourishing small screen career. During his successful three years on The Wire, Gbenga became a series regular on fan-favorite Showtime series Barbershop. Gbenga has since made notable guest appearances on TV’s biggest shows including Law and Order SVU, for which he was submitted for an Emmy, Fringe, Cold Case, Numb3rs, Conviction, and currently can be seen in the recurring role as “Pastor Isaiah Easton” opposite Julianna Margulies in CBS’ The Good Wife.

He works heavily as a representative as for nonprofits such as All for Africa, Rewired for Change and Shine on Sierra Leon. In his free time, Gbenga is a freelance writer for the New York Times.

For starters, we don’t shy away from any topic or theme we find interesting or educative. Hence we’ll be putting our own spin on the elections coming-up in Nigeria. We started with our live coverage of the PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) presidential primaries last month – we gave updates on twitter @Amebor .

So for this week, we’ll be Minding TUNG’s “Bizness”

The United Nigeria Group (TUNG) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization comprised of a group of progressive Nigerians — at home and in the Diaspora— who are committed to the growth and development of our beloved country, Nigeria.

The United Nigeria Group is dedicated to a democratic and united Nigeria. The movement was inspired by the need to elevate our country to its rightful place in the world. For too long many of us have sat on the sidelines watching some of our leaders put themselves before the interests of the people they were elected to serve.

The United Nigeria Group also believes that to make progress and take our country to a place where we can achieve our full potential, we should focus on our positive achievements and contributes more towards the uplifting of our collective existence as a nation. The government cannot always do it all. Our elected officials need the full support of the citizens.

The United Nigeria Group is not in denial that our nation has issues that must be dealt with, but we cannot continue to slam Nigeria without being vocal about solutions as well. It is our position that there are enough civilians in society and media outlets who make their living from focusing on the negative aspects about Nigeria on a daily basis and so we choose to concentrate on the other area they fail to elaborate on.

This political season, we proudly endorse GOOD LUCK JONATHAN for the presidency because:

1. His all inclusive politics promises to bring unity to Nigerians regardless or religious or regional orientation.

2. His even temperament is an admirable quality, tantamount to the success of any great leadership. This is evident in his composure and transition from vice president of Nigeria, to acting president, to president.

3. In the last 9 months as president, he has drastically reduced fuel scarcity. He has evened out the price of fuel nationwide in Nigeria and all the oil refineries are functioning in Nigeria.

4. He is actively renovating our power sector to help stabilize electricity in the country.

5. In education, he has commissioned 9 universities to be built immediately and he has committed to making sure every state gets at least one new university within 2 years. He has also set up a presidential committee that will help strengthen the primary, secondary and tertiary levels of education in Nigeria.

6. He has invested in major infrastructure (highways) what are being built to increase road safety in the country.

7. He advocated a more transparent banking industry for economic prosperity

8. All the Radar systems in all airports in Nigeria have been restored to facilitate aviation safety and security

9. He invested $280 million dollars in the arts to support the youth by creating jobs and making Nigeria more competitive nationally and internationally

10. He has substantially invested in agriculture to ensure self sufficiency in food production and provide numerous job opportunities

He is a candidate with humble beginnings that truly has a pulse on the heartbeat of Nigeria. He is in touch with his people. He is committed to conducting free and fair elections in Nigeria. The PDP primaries are evidence of this. Because of his humility he sees himself as a servant of his people. He is a good listener that truly lives and believes in the potential of his people.

These are few of the many reasons why The United Nigeria Group is endorsing GOOD LUCK JONATHAN Join us on April 9th to spearhead a new leadership direction for our country Nigeria.

ASAKE: Asakeoge was launched at the London Metropolitan Business School Charity Fashion show when I was asked to come up with a collection for the event. Prior to that I had been designing and making outfits for friends and family. I was always making clothes for my dolls when I was little and had a toy sewing machine aged a 8 which had to be replaced three times cos I used it so much !
My grandmother, mother and three aunties were seamstresses so I guess Fashion has always been in my blood and I guess its just something I came into naturally.
I am inspired by a lot of random things, artwork, nature, but the designers who have inspired me most are Vivienne westwood, Alexander McQueen & Yemi Osunkoya of Kosibah Creations.

ASAKE: That’s a difficult question as I love all my dresses.

Only a few individuals in the Diaspora can we point to as proudly flying the flag for Nigeria. Apart from artists, not many Nigerian-born talents have been able to gain spotlight abroad. Welcome Chuks Nwanesi. Our own born, bred and partly Nigerian-educated son of the soil making waves on the American movie scene.

His film – A Man, A Woman, A Genie, A Gun has just earned him a spot on Cannes Film Festival – the Short Film Corner – a prestigious avenue for aspiring actors, directors and producers to make their mark. Watching the preview, I couldn’t help but feel I was viewing and subconsciously scrutinizing the work of a young Spike Lee, an up-and-coming Quentin Tarantino and the best part being he’s a Nigerian. The pride I felt at that fact could make my heart burst.

Nascence of a star

He attributes his heightened sense of directing to his upbringing and childhood. Born and bred in the vicinity of Badiko in Kaduna, he was always locked indoors because they were the only ones who spoke English and were the only Christians for miles around. There were no toys and internet was non-existent in what I’d rightly call the pre-modern era, so he’d stay home with his siblings all day watching movies. According to him, as a kid, although he wasn’t an expert in Nigerian current affairs, he could tell you the director of any American movie off the top of his head. An alumni of Model Secondary School, Kaduna, he was then ‘thrown’ (his word, not mine) into Imo State by his father to be an Igbo man which is where he gained his bachelors degree. After serving in Akwa Ibom for NYSC and working in Abuja for a year, he landed in The States where he earned a scholarship in a grad school in New Jersey, NJIT, to study architecture.

While his mates obsessed over scantily-clad leading females in films, he was more interested in the director’s aim. “I’m more interested in film makers and directors than the actors. I’ve never been interested in who the leading actor is, I was more into the direction and the story. The story is king. That was what did it for me, and still does.” His passion led him to critique films, write and blog about them and also took up screen-writing with a view to challenge Hollywood. He was encouraged by his professors, friends and family members who secretly submitted his scripts into various competitions which eventually all got into the finals. “Their efforts prompted me to do something about it. I sent my script to Godfrey from Soul-Plane who told me he liked it very much and so I decided to turn it into a film, and here we are!”

“The Inspiration of your film sir….really, sir?”

The idea of the short film, he maintains, was borne out of an idea inspired by the failed attempt of the Nigerian suicide bomber, Farouk Al-Muttalab. It was in a bid to change people’s perception of Nigeria as it had just become an additional stigma for Nigerians especially the ones in the Diaspora, an extra blemish on the green and white flag, right next to the fraud tag.

The movie is a comedy. A brief synopsis of it is a white couple driving through a bad neighbourhood – see Nigerians – freak out – whip out gun – gun goes off – hits a black genie’s window carving a clean hole in it- intro the genie – comedy ensues. For that part, Nwanesi relied on a really ancient genie joke to maintain the idea while adding the terrorist twist to it. I put my hands up, my synopsis has not done this movie the justice it deserves and that’s because you need to see it to believe it. Just the direction alone will leave you marvelling at the genius that is Nwanesi, the professionalism of the cast is an additional testament to the budding director’s capabilities and the picture quality of the film is certainly one for the books. The last mentioned element can be attributed to his other passion, architecture which is a very hands-on and heavily graphics-based course. It helped him with structuring while directing and gave him an insight into how a particular scene would look from a certain angle while filming.

However, it’s not been an easy ride for our beloved Chuks. He’s had to follow his dreams and made sure it achieved its fruition while on the other hand holding down a 9-5 job. As well as having to carry out the administrative duties himself and organising a production crew, he’s had the unenviable task of doing both director’s job and producer as well, also acquiring props, going over scripts and storyboarding. “I was doing so much I eventually broke down one day and was hospitalised for a whole week. The things you have to do to achieve your dream, right?” he says. While I wouldn’t wish the pressure he was under on any living thing or the hassle he underwent, I for one definitely admire his tenacity and unrelenting determination. Fortunately for him, his toiling has paid of. Not only did he attain a spot on the Cannes Film Festival – Short Film Corner, he’s also in the running for the LAshortsFest Awards, the 5th most prestigious short film festival in the world which gives way to six Oscar qualifying spots!

Plus I get a free pass so I get to watch all the movies for free. Besides, that night is mostly about networking. I plan to bump into some famous names directors, script ‘accidentally’ falls into their laps, who knows?” he said amidst a mischievous laugh. “But honestly”, he continued “I’m mainly going to network and meet people and plan the next movie. It’s all about the exposure.” He hopes to get people asking him what he’s got brewing next as he’s quite confident about his next project – a feature film which is an independent movie which script he’s currently working on.

Seeing what’s on the proverbial table, what other enviable evidence is needed? Nwanesi is about to blow. A star in the making. Our very own Chuks Nwanesi turning the world to his oyster, where the sky is only the beginning, not the limit. You can also count on yours truly for an ‘I told you so’ episode which involves a special dance, for when he eventually blows. Thru my search I noticed Motherland Krooks, a line started by philanthropist and designer, Seyi Sowunmi which captured and blended urban and african influences. Being an amebor I decided to interview him and find out more…..CHK it Out

AMEBOR» When did you launch MK?
MK»‎Motherland Krooks started in 2007

AMEBOR» What inspired you to start this line?
MK» First of, I will like to say thank you for this interview. The inspiration comes from my interest in fashion and passion for africa. I wanted to find a way to differentiate how clothing

AMEBOR»No doubt, we appreciate ethnic fashion and what they bring to the community.‎ Where did the concept for MK come about?
MK»As an African, one can help to notice how corrupt are countries are. Corruption, hunger and poverty are top issues in Africa and I want to capture these issue through clothing. Motherland-of course refers to the continent of Africa and Krooks – refers to the people that are causing and not preventing the top issues

AMEBOR»‎Of course you know @ amebor we are in your bizness, Tell us about the “Stop The Krooks Foundation”.
MK»‎Well, that’s a project we have created to execute the purpose of motherland krooks Inc. We currently just collaborate with non for profit organization as we hope to do more of out own projects to help the problems facing Africa.

AMEBOR»‎So you are a designer/philanthropists, we need more people like you in our world. So now to minding who Seyi Sowunmi is? Where are you from other than Naija?
MK»‎I am from The Bronx, New York.

AMEBOR»‎The home of Fat Joe and them, cool cool…so what is a typical day in the life of Seyi like?
MK»My days are pretty unpredictable, but a typical day will be going to the office in the morning, then trying go to class in the afternoon. I usually pick up ideas for new designs during the day. When I get back on campus I start designing, promoting or studying. Sometimes both. ‎I don’t sleep till I’m able to get ideas out my head by sketching or research.

AMEBOR» ‎We see from your designs that your hard work has really paid off, congratulations, where can we purchase Motherland Krooks designs??
MK»‎Thanks. We just launched the Motherland Krooks website with the online store. Anyone can get their hands on our design by simply logging on HERE
