AKON SET TO HEADLINE 7UP 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Music lovers in Nigeria are in for a swell time come October 16, 2010. This is because Seven Up Bottling Company PLC will be staging a big indoor concert about two weeks after Nigeria clocks 50 years as an Independent Commonwealth country, with Senegalese-American artist Akon as the headline act. At an interactive session with the media held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, Faysal El-Khalil, Chairman of the soft drinks company said- ‘Seven Bottling Company is planning an anniversary event tagged ”7UP Future Is Green Bash” on October 16 2010, that will feature Akon and big Nigerian stars.’ Akon, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam was born in St Louis, grew up in Senegal and returned later on to the United States with his family when he was seven. He is a Rapper, Singer-Songwriter, Record Producer, Businessman and Philanthropist.

Akon is no stranger to the Nigerian crowd

Founder of two Record Labels, Konvict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution, Akon won the Favourite Soul/R&B Male Artist Plaque at the American Music Awards in 2007. He has confirmed that that he is working on a reality show to be known as ‘My Brother’s Keeper’. The show will feature Akon’s two nearly identical brothers going to different places in Atlanta, Georgia, posing as their famous sibling and fooling people that they are the music star. Akon has maintained that people have mistaken his brothers for him many times in Atlanta. This case of mistaken identity will serve as the theme of the reality show. The Seven Up Bottling Company PLC is the Independent manufacturer and distributor of the well known and widely consumed brand of soft drinks in Nigeria- Pepsi, 7UP, Mirinda, Mountain Dew and Teem. The company has nine manufacturing plants in Nigeria with headquarters in Beirut, Lebanon.

A Racist slur or a Joke gone too far?

Less than three days after scoring his first goal for new club West Brom of England, Osaze Odemwingie has been hit by a remark that might come across as been racist by a lot of people in the sporting world.
At the heart of the race storm is Russia, one of the bidding nations for the 2018 World Cup. Yesterday images emerged showing fans of Lokomotiv Moscow holding up a banner saying; THANK YOU WESTBROM with a banana fruit in the middle of the statement.

Officials in Russia have been quick to play down the gaffe. Their response was that in Russia the banana is used to symbolise failure. Rival bidding nation, England has been quick to criticise the Russians for having their fans behave in an inappropriate manner. English Sports Minister Hugh Robertson said: “Racism has no place in football or sport in general. If there is evidence that it has taken place I’d hope the relevant authorities would take a tough line.”

Lokomotiv Moscow fans making their feelings known

A source from Russian embassy in London said: “So far we don’t see any reasons to dramatise this, since in Russian student slang ‘to get a banana’ means to fail a test, and Odemwingie was seen by many fans in Moscow as not perhaps the best performer. But it’s their own judgment.”

Osaze had suffered a dry spell in last month’s with Russian Club Lokomotiv Moscow and some sections of the Russian press had claimed that his lack of bite in front of goal was down to the hostile nature of the fans at his former club.

Just like England this is not the first time Russia has been involved in race rows. In the 2008, Ronald Zubar, Andre Ayew and Charles Kabhore of Marsielle FC of France were subjects of racist slurs from fans of Zenit Saint Petersburg of Russia. Cameroonian defender Andre Bikey was also subjected to racist chants during his time at Lokomotiv Moscow.

Osaze who experienced a last few horrid months at Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow proved to be an instant hit at West Brom, scoring in his first game on Saturday.

A six-man FIFA delegation visited Russia last week just days before a banner showing an allegedly racist remark been directed at Osaze Odemwingie.

Worshippers Praising the Lord

After partying for two nights straight, going to church felt like the right thing to do and if

I had one word to describe the service, it would be – AMAZING! Even though I missed

the praise& worship session, I didn’t feel like I missed out on anything. Apart from the

praise and worship session, the church choir had their special selection; there were

comedy sessions in which Jedi & Seyi Brown performed. Special guests like Dele

Momodu and Dayo Israel were present. The service also featured another by the PCE

Crew.

A big applause has to g to the praise team for their uplifting songs and choruses. The

thanksgiving session was the best part of the entire service. Overall, the service was

great & I was blessed.

Who Is Doggext??? | Music

Jamiu Bolarinwa, also known as Doggext, is a Nigerian artist based in Boston, Massahchusetts. He was born and raised in Ojuwoye, in Mushin. In 2000 he performed at the annual street jamz hosted by Dare with such artists like Dagrin who was known back then as Green Face.
Doggext Show will be the first studio project of the artist who has been in the game for more than six years but was never serious about his talent until he met Swan B of SwanBallaz Records. He joined the team which included the group SwaggaKings and two producers Bazooka and MyV in 2006, ever since then it has been all about progression.
Doggext has collaborated with Duncan Daniels on an upcoming mixtape. By what I’ve heard so far, Doggext has real potential and I really see him as a feature artist in years to come. You be the judge, is he the next big thing???? Take a listen

N.A.I.R.A Lost In Translation | Music

If you are looking for energy, charisma & good lyrics, this is the artist to listen to. She calls herself N.A.I.R.A, an acronym which stands for “Nigerian American I Represent Africa”. I found this mix-tape Lost In Translation very refreshing & exciting at the same time.

One of my favorite tracks on the mix-tape is “Fly hustle, fresh grind”. Naira believes it’s time for us to be fly, be great, believe, time to set our plans in action and it’s time for us to be fearless. If you’re a hopeless romantic like I am, then you’ll fall in love with another track “Back to you”. Naira has this earthy quality reminiscent of the blues that I really like. This mix-tape has the ability to lighten anyone’s mood.

BLACK STARS OF GHANA SHINES

Ghana has recorded Africa’s first win at this year’s world cup in South Africa. Asamoah Gyan gave Ghana a well deserved lead in the 84 minute through a well struck penalty. Africa’s other representative, Desert Foxes of Algeria weren’t so lucky. Reminiscent of Robert Green’s howler when England played USA, Algerian goal kepper, Faouzi Chaouchi failed to stop a simple shot from Slovenian captain, Robert Koren. His mistake would cost them dare as a ten man Algerian side lost 0-1 to Slovenia.

Perhaps the highlight of the day for the continent of Africa is Ghana’s superb performance against a highly tipped Serbian side that featured the likes of Manchester United’s Vidic and Chelsea’s Ivanovic.

Kevin rince Boateng narrowly missed out the man of the match award to Goal scorer A.Gyan.

With a side missing players such as Muntari of Intermilan and Essien of Chelsea, Ghana showed that it could its own against most teams in the tournament. German born Ghanaian Kevin Prince Boateng was a star in the middle of the pack for Ghana as his mazy runs and superb passing caused the Serbian team all evening.

With Africa’s first win recorded, one hopes this is the sign of better things to come for other African teams in the tournament.

VECTOR – KILODE (VIDEO PREMIÈRE)

Sometime last year, we conducted an interview with upcoming Nigerian rapper Vector and since then the Rapper has gone on to increase his popularity by featuring in a couple of songs alongside other artistes.

Vector, known by his family and close friends as Ogunmefun Olanrewaju David has released a new single called Video for a single titled “Kilode”. The video was directed by DeDe and is of very good quality. Vector has an album in the works called “State of Surprise” and with the quality of his material consistently getting better by minute, we have no cause not to believe that the album will be a classic. Enjoy the video!
