DO SOMETHING THAT WILL GET YOU NOTICED: A lot of artistes are getting online these days. How do I separate yourself from the crowd? should be the question you should be asking yourself. Do something different e.g Give-aways, Quizzes, Gimmicks

GET A SHORT AND EASY TO REMEMBER URL: When registering a domain name for yourself, always use one that is easy to remember, rather than a long-winded one. www.findmymusiconlineplease.com does not cut it, keep it easy and simple.

The secret to great online music promotion is learning to do it properly

KEEP YOUR SOCIAL PROFILES CONCISE: While playing around with funky designs on social networks might seem attractive, overcrowding your pages might get fans confused. Don’t overcrowd your social profile, choose to use only useful tools and stick to it.

PROMOTE YOUR ONLINE CONTENT WITH OFFLINE MATERIAL AND PROMOTION: Add your social media and online addresses on your business cards, flyers and other offline promotional material.

GET YOUR SONGS ON ITUNES OR CDBABY: Your fans will be all over the world if you push your music to the limits. Gone are the days when access to musical material used to be the expertise of records shops. These days having your song on iTunes and CDBaby  can boost your music sales and provide a healthy financial reward.

INTERACT WITH OTHER ARTISTES: Create online relationships with other artistes, getting their edification can help you build a reputation of some sort online.

CREATE SOMETIME FOR YOUR FANS: These days you don’t have to be a mega star to have fans as a musical artiste; the internet has made the reality apparent to most upcoming music followers. Even if your fan base is small learn to reply mails sent by people that appreciate your music. Honour friend requests can and learn to personalise messages you reply, if it was sent by let’s say a music fan called Jason, reply that person with their name in the reply message, don’t send out a group message to acknowledge their support.

JOIN A SOCIAL MEDIA NETWORK: So who is not doing social media these days? Virtually everyone is doing it. A chunk of your fans are either on Facebook, YouTube or Twitter. As a musical artiste, set up an account on these networks and leverage these platforms.

WRITE A DECENT BIOGRAPHY: A decent biography is a concise, informative and interesting piece that sheds light on your history as a musical artiste. Write one that stands out and spread it across places on the internet where you have a platform.

BARRIERS BROKEN: The increase in popularity of the internet has opened ways for musical artistes to promote their music online.

CREATE SOME GOOD SET OF PHOTOS: Imagery is an important aspect of online music promotion. The adage that says perception shapes reality is true here. Create a good impression of yourself with top notch imagery, professional photo shoots and a look that are uniform on all your online platforms.

AVOID SPAMMING PEOPLE:  There is a fine line with keeping in touch and sending unsolicited and repeated messages. If you are seen as someone who sends messages without leaving time gaps, you could ruin your online reputation. Remember rumour spreads fast online than offline.

OFFER FREE DOWNLOADS: Your aim is to get your music to be heard as much as possible. You can do this by offering free downloads. Sites such as 4shared.com are good for allowing fans download your music.

CREATE A WEBSITE: A website is like your own personal house on the internet. Here, you can engage your fans, capture their data, interact and also keep them up-to-date with what you do.

As our society becomes open, people are beginning to see that dating a younger man goes beyond the stereotypical sugar mama preying on a boy toy. As a Woman ages gracefully, she might have more choice and dating a younger man can be more attractive than dating men of the same age, especially if those older men have baggages (divorce, ex-wife, etc.). While dating a younger man offers an exciting ride there are few things an older woman must discover before she indulges. Here are some tips below.

GO FOR THE MATURE ONES
We are sometimes engrossed in the notion that age determines maturity but sometimes depending on their life experiences, some younger guys have had to grow up faster and have gained some wisdom and insight. Saying this, if you are looking for a casual relationship, it may not really matter.

Before you start dating, determine what you want out of the relationship. By doing so you will be able to handle any disappointments. Will you be seeing him a lot or seldom? Limited quality time vs. quantity time may suit the busy cougar schedule better.  Does he want children? Is he into the idea of marriage? These discussions don’t have to take place on the first date; having such discussions might make you look needy. Wait till your relationship develops to discuss such issues. Communication is the life blood of any relationship.

REMEMBER YOU ARE NOT HIS MUM
You have raised your own kids and you don’t want to raise another one. Don’t fall into the trap of turning a lover into a son.

Is he dating you for the fun of it or doing it because he loves you?  For some young guys, going out with an older woman is a fantasy and also something they can boast about to their peers. He may also have the stereotypical idea of the older woman being able to teach him a thing or two in bed.  Unless you don’t mind having a casual relationship with no strings attached to it, it’s best to avoid them.

Always remember, despite you being older than him, you are still a woman. Yes, give him clues that you are into him if he shows interest but let him take the lead. Let him ask for your number. Let him ask you out. Let him do all the things it takes to woo a woman.

A younger man allows an older woman the opportunity to experience an exciting dating life that she may not have  experienced before. By not having the baggage of ex’s and a divorce, it is more attractive and refreshing than dating men of the same age. Once expectations are determined and the “Omo Mummy’s” and “Booty Chasers” are eliminated, the young man of your dreams may show up for some casual fun or a serious relationship.

We think we have found the freakiest timeline on twitter and with a name such as S*E*X D*I*V*A we can’t be too far from the truth. Using the twitter name @odinabarbie, Odina recently granted a controversial interview to Ynaija.com.

Speaking on the interview she said:

Well nowadays, it’s evolved to a much intricate level that borders on the verge of insanity. The crazy thing about it is that, people have become way too concerned with their high ranking status on the site. Such people who actually attain such statuses are dubbed ‘’Twitter celebs’’. Now, don’t get me wrong……there is nothing wrong being a twitter celeb; it’s the lengths at which people go to attain it that baffle me. Some attain their status by good means….some attain it by crazy ones. All is dependent on how you see it. Being a twitter celeb isn’t that difficult. There are some steps that you can take…. (If you are that desperate for it), that would definitely guarantee you tons of followers and a lot of traffic on your TL.

1) Be a real life celebrity- Actors, singers, models, socialites…etc, never have to worry about being twitter celebs…….whether they like it or not, it is bound to happen.

2) Have a genuine cause- people who tweet on a singular topic on a constant basis. Sometimes, their handles are practical definitions of what they tweet about.

3) Talk trashy- a lot of peeps are good at saying some of the nastiest things online. Usually, people are attracted to such. Either it is due to momentary shock or pure entertainment, they keep following

4) Be hilarious- Everybody loves a good laugh. Constantly supplying a good string of humor filled lines would guarantee you a high status

5) Create a kick ass TT- usually; anybody from the above mentioned categories can also do that. TTs always create a string of discussion all the time

6) Be a hot girl- Hot babes will always get followed………..Konji state of mind dictates so.

8 ) Tweet fights- initiate tweet fights with some of the most popular names on twitter and you will definitely get noticed.

9) Achieve the impossible- twitter has always been an area for new things. Try and do something no one has thought of and you are on our way to becoming Twitter’s Next Top Celebrity.

By the time you have finished reading this, you might ask yourself if I am a Twitter Celeb and if I have tried any of this. Well, first of all….. I am not one. (Although it won’t be a bad idea.) Secondly……I am an observer. Just stating the obvious tips……I don’t have to experience them. So if you are into that stuff, you might as well get it popping.

It is not easy money and few make more than enough for the bare survival. The ore is thin and yields its treasures only to long hours of hot labour. Like the Internet Startups, there are no fenced off private claims in this gold rush. The land is open to all comers.

In recent years we’ve seen an ascendancy in the entertainment (particularly music) industry in West Africa, particularly music. Even MTV, BET, MNET and other large media companies are getting in on the action – with various award shows and coverages.

And yes, acts such as Dbanj, Tuface, P-Square are all “rock stars” and becoming millionaires within a relatively short period. Its pertinent to note that Blackky, Mike Okri, and  those who came before them weren’t as lucky, despite making decent music (talk of being born at the right time)

There are millions of reason why this is so – I think the accessibility of Internet technology/firms (facebook, Myspace, twitter etc) have played a pivotal role. The web has enabled artists to develop fan bases regardless of their geographical location, at little to no cost.
Additionally, the barrier for entry is particularly low for music, when compared to movies and video production, which has a lot of moving parts. And that explains why nollywood, ghallywood (the Ghanaian movie industry) and other African movie/film production  are still in the stone age when compared to hollywood and bollywood.

The low barrier of entry which I mentioned above is what makes the web/tech field the next ‘gold rush,” in West Africa. I say this despite the awful education system in this part of the world. The major tools which have empowered the most successful tech entre’p/geeks; computer, Internet connection, intellectual curiosity, a sharp mind, and time to work hard/smart are not the hardest thing to come-by these days. More and more people are getting access to computers every year, while the power and speed of these machine doubles every 18 months (see Moore’s law)

So no surprise that web start-ups and new-media blogs and news site are popping up from/for West Africa. As a quasi-maven of the tech and new-media field, naturally some of these  tech and new-media start-ups have caught my attention and the attention of the folks at TechCrunch. I’ll be sticking to the ones that actually do SOLVE PROBLEMS.

Here are some of them:

WhereYOUDey (WhereYouDey.com) – ….a link between businesses and people, businesses and businesses via Internet, print and mobile media.

Extramil.es (extramil.es) – making the “heling of other individuals” more effective. Extramiles will help you to sign up as an volunteer and donate your time for volunteer work.

Paga (pagatech.com)- …to send cash, purchase airtime credit, pay bills, and pay retailers. Paga supports all phones, even the most basic SMS-enabled phone.

MyCash (mycashg48.appspot.com/) – For people who track their expenses: people who need to budget (eg. students) can track and share their expenses.

Judging by these pictures, General Buhari seems to be sending the Political Heavyweights in Nigeria a message that he is not going down without a fight.  The ex-president who is seeking a second term in office under the umbrella of CPC, has vowed that he will not contest the results of the elections if he does not win this time around.  There has been an increased support for Gen. Buhari in recent times, and going by these pictures of him in Sokoto, his momentum does not show any signs of slowing down.
