Sunday 22nd April 2012, the 8th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) took place at the coveted New Expo Hall, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The award show was a sure sight to behold as the biggest stars in the African Movie Industry came out in style and dazzled in their glamorous gowns and sophisticated suits.

First Nollywood Movies Awards (NMAs) 2012

Nollywood Movies is a 24 Hour Movie channel on the SKY Platform Channel 329 based in the United Kingdom that specializes in broadcasting movies from the Nigerian Movie industry known as “Nollywood”. The Channel was launched in January 2008 and has also been involved in promoting Nigerian Movies through Premieres in the United Kingdom.

In its social responsibility initiatives, Nollywood Movies is delighted to announce the inaugural Nollywood Movies Awards which will be celebrating Excellence, Outstanding Achievements and Diversity in the industry.

The Awards will celebrate both English speaking and Indigenous talents with a Nominees’ Party set to take place on Saturday 5th May 2012 at the Oriental hotel in Lagos, Nigeria with the Main Awards Ceremony on Saturday 2nd June 2012 at the Civic Centre also in Lagos, Nigeria.

The primary aim of the Nollywood Movies Awards (NMAs) is to honor and recognize excellence in the Industry. Furthermore, 22 categories have been created which include Acting, Pre and Post Production, which will help develop the industry. The Awards will also focus on the highest achievements of films produced for the industry each year in order to motivate and encourage those who make them and inspire new entrants into the industry.

Members of the Press are invited to attend the Press Conference slated for Friday 27thApril 2012 at the Lagos Ikeja Hotel (Best Western) where the full list of categories and nominees will be revealed. The highlights of the ceremony will be screened later on Nollywood Movies (SKY Channel 329) and on other notable platforms.

New York– Nigerians and friends of Nigeria will be coming together once again in New York City to celebrate the 51st anniversary of Nigeria’s independence. This annual parade is the “largest celebration by Nigerians outside of the homeland.” This year’s celebration will mark the 20th year of the Nigerian Independence Day Parade in New York City. The three-day celebration will be loaded with fun and excitement, with Nigerians in the Diaspora joining hands to celebrate their heritage and homeland.Thursday, October 6, 2011 – Welcome Party – The proverbial red carpet will be rolled out for Nigerian youths and the young at heart coming from Europe, Nigeria, and all across North America to participate in this year’s Independence Day celebration. The reception will be held at the upscale Nigerian eatery – FESTAC Ultra Lounge located at 263 Hendrix Street, Brooklyn, NY. Time – 10 PM. Admission is free.

Friday, October 7, 2011 – Cultural Night – Nigerians will demonstrate their embrace of their rich cultures at Brooklyn College located at 2901 Campus Road, Brooklyn, NY 11210.

There will be a fashion show featuring highly talented Nigerian fashion designers and models, as well as live performances by various Nigerian artistes. Saturday, October 8, 2011 – 12 Noon – Parade & Festival – Nigeria Independence Day Parade will commence from East 54th Street and Second Avenue in Manhattan, and proceed to Nigeria House on 44th Street and Second Avenue. This annual parade with its now famous colorful floats and moving live music attracts public officials, tens of thousands of people in their traditional attires, various organizations and cultural groups proudly carrying their banners, and marching bands.

Immediately after the parade, there will be a cultural festival at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza on 47th Street and Second Avenue (by United Nations Secretariat). Various well known Nigerian and other African artistes will entertain the audience. Fun seekers will also have the opportunity to enjoy the tastes of delicious Nigerian dishes.

Yoruba Youth Corporation (YYC) is an organization for young people whose aim is to promote the Yoruba heritage by creating an environment for peer to peer interaction. YYC wants to inspire our members to lead a successful, fruitful, and culturally awakened life through mentoring, tutoring, and scholarship. We would also like to introduce YORUBA LANGUAGE and culture into junior colleges.
