With the second round of matches concluded at the on-going world cup in South Africa. Cameroon has become the first African side to be eliminated from the competition. Although Samuel Eto’o gave Cameroon a well-deserved lead in the second match against Denmark, Arsenal’s Nickolas Bendtner cancelled the lead before half time and cemented a fine performance by assisting the Danes in securing a second goal that sent the Cameroonians packing.

Kaita's Red card cost Nigeria against Greece

Nigeria, one of Africa’s biggest hopes also suffered a defeat in the hands of Greece. The talking point of the match was the sending off of Hard tackling midfielder Sani Kaita. In a moment of madness, Sani responded to an aggravation by a kick player by kicking him in the thigh. His action meant that the referee was left with no choice but to send him off. With ten men, Nigeria struggled to keep the lead and lost the game 2-1.
Host nation South Africa were also very disappointing, losing 0-3 in front a sell crowd in SoccerCity last Wednesday. Ghana showed some promised coming from a goal down to draw with Australia and The Ivory Coast lost 3-1 to Brazil. The Ivory Coast versus Brazil game was marred by the sending off of Kaka. Kaka was given a second yellow card for an off the ball incident that saw Ivory Coast Kieta reeling on the floor he had been shot.
In a game that England was expected to win, Algeria showed some promise by holding Almighty England to a scoreless draw.
The second match results means that Nigeria, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Ghana and Algeria still have a chance of qualifying while Cameroon will be playing a formality last match to salvage its pride.
