Day 1 – Ready to Wear: When I first got word of the Boston Fashion Expose, I was definitely a skeptic. I mean when I think of High Fashion, Trendy Styles, Lights-Camera-Fashion, Boston is not on the top of my list. My skepticism and willingness to support brought all the way to the beautiful setting of Boston’s Charlestown Navy Yard where the Fashion Expose was held. Just walking up to the ‘big white tent’ turned my skepticism into pleasant surprise. I was apparently in for a treat.
Once inside there was a slew of media, the hottest music blaring, and nothing but the most beautiful and stylish people Boston has to offer. Although some friends and I missed the 1st half of Fridays ready to wear show, the 2nd half made it all worth the wait. From the body flattering corsets and color popping skirts by designer Sparkle Thames, to designer Ty Scott whose collection was a mix of standout urban wear and classic Asian style, being impressed was definitely an understatement. My anticipation to see Korto Momolu’s designs also did not go vain. Her collection of ethnic street wear and ‘I’m every woman’ dresses solidifies her position as one of the great rising designers of our time.
Friday’s show was a Grand production. In addition to the impressive fashion designs, I loved seeing so many ethnically diverse models gracing the runway. The expose’s makeup design team also gets two thumbs for a perfected job well done. As makeup artist myself I paid specific attention to the detailed applications of makeup from natural, to all out Glam, to contouring avant garde. The audience was left ‘wanting more’.

Day 2 -Couture: Saturday’s showcase of Couture designs was sure to please. Unfortunately Boston’s acclimate weather, in the form of a thunderstorm affected the ‘big white tents’ interior design, causing the early afternoon show to be delayed for several hours. Upon our early arrival, the gracious Fashion Expose organizers allowed us backstage access where we were given refreshments, met some of the models, and saw 1st hand what it takes to put on this caliber of a show.
Then it was Showtime! Again Korto Momolu who never ceases to amaze, produced an exquisite collection of African inspired handbags using the best of African textures and prints. And who knew she does jewelry, talk about jackstress of all trades. Her beautifully beaded neck pieces had the audience gasping over what they wanted to take home. She proves that a tee shirt and jeans can go a long way with the right accessories!
Saturday’s ready wear Couture show ended with what I felt was literally saving the best for last. The old-Hollywoodesque gowns by rising Boston designer Prajje Jean Baptiste took our breathes away. His collection epitomized womanhood from the workplace, to dinner, to a ball and even a wedding. Two stand out pieces was a white long length gown with gorgeous black detailed pattern. A second standout piece was a goddess like gown in champagne mauve which could be worn to the grandest of affairs or as a wedding dress. Boston’s 2nd Fashion Expose was a huge eye opener to what impeccable fashion Boston has to offer. The shows overall production which includes the venue setting, internal decor and the staff deserves much accolade! Big applause to the organizers and contributors, namely Saran, Prajje, n Lexx:-).
