Event Description: On Friday July 16, MUI|PR launched a diverse collection of African art forms in Music, Fashion and Art photography. The affair, the first of its kind in New York City (NYC), was leveraged to discredit misconceptions, generalizations, and stereotypes surrounding Africa by introducing the works of Africans and that which they communicate.

In keeping with the ethos and motivation of MUI|PR, the affair introduced a meeting of style, photography, and music from the African perspective, but geared towards the global community. It featured performances and displays by the following established emerging talents:

Visual art display by Wole Onafowora, proprietor of NYC-based Rookie Photography;
Couture and ready-to-wear designs by DC-based Kreatif Designs, Philadelphia-based Roshe Dousuah and Chicago-based Studio Alade;
Live performances by two of Kenya’s musical geniuses, Kanja “the African King” and Sheilla “Safari” Ankwara.

In one night, these three groups of art professionals immersed attendees in Africa through their own eyes, ears and aesthetic sensibilities while fueling dynamic exchanges within and without.

P-SQUARE IN THE U.S. | Press Conference

Yes guys, P-Square’s in da US baby!!..I caught up with them yesterday @ HK Lounge in the city for a special press confrence to let da fans know they have been preparing for the US tour. When asked about the upcoming performance in NYC they said: “expect an electrifying performance and to have a great time”.

So we asked P-Square a few questions about the upcoming tour, their key to sucess and being recognized @ the up coming BET awards. And they answered us by saying : ”It took a long time to come to America because of schedule and availability issues but we had to make sure we alloted enough time and resources for this experience. Our focus on the tour is on promoting our album that dropped 8 months ago; and don’t anticipate on recording anything new here in the states”. And their key to their success as a group is that the P-Square operations is run and facilitated by members of their family; for instance their brother is their mgr and has a vested interest in their wellbeing/success. Regarding BET awards: it’s a great start for their US tour! They are highly humbled that they are being recognized; this is a time Africans can come together to turn their nomination into an award. However even if they don’t win, they are still very happy and excited that they are being recognized by the world

It all went down at the Ariya hall in Newark, New Jersey. The highly anticipated event titled “United we stand, Divided we fall” was exactly what it was because beautiful people from all parts of Africa were in attendance.

Music was produced by an array of DJ’s: Banky Hype, Cali Cal, EL -G, Nightmare and Ace Boogie. All in all, it was a good party with a good turnout of people of different African cultures, and the right message was sent. “United we stand, Divided we fall”

On the 8th of May 2009, The Applause Magazine continued their commendable tradition of promoting African Talents. They sponsored a show at Zereoue, NYC, tagged Blunt Fusion featuring Toba Gold alongside Koleurz and MC’ed by comedian Jedi. “The idea was to showcase something different in the African community”, said Adebowale Folorunsho, CEO of the magazine, “We want people to enjoy real music –an artist playing his music live with a band, not someone miming to his music.”

“These are great artists in their own field, and we got them together because we believe in what they are doing, and want to support them” adds Michael Ikotun, President of Applause Magazine

TOBA GOLD, a Biochemist turned vocalist, is one of Nigeria’s hottest musicians. As a jazz/neo-soul artist, Toba brings forth an eclectic sound stemming from a mixture of English and Yoruba. His songs appeal to the matured minds, conversing on issues ranging from love to life.

KOLEURZ,is a Nigerian artist that has come from singing in a church choir in the 80’s, to performing at various cities in the United States. The name Koleurz originates from the versatility and combination of her musical knowledge and heritage; she often sings in Ibo. Koleurz resides in Long Island, New York.

JEDI, commonly called “The Well Fed Comedian,” the ridiculously hilarious entertainer Jedi evolved over the years not just as a comedian and an MC but he has a unique dimension to him that separates him from his peers and that is his dedication and passion to the things of God

AFRICARIBANA at it’s Finest {Pictures}

This was definitely a night to remember. First of all, it was wonderful way to wrap up and usher out 2009 and also welcome 2010 with open arms of celebration. This party was organized and planned without it lacking class and grandeur. Even though the weather didn’t look too promising as the weatherman had projected, the ladies still came in looking sexy in their lovely dresses and fellas came in looking sharp and spiffy. Right from the time I stepped into the venue, the alluring sound of African and Caribbean music jolted me into dancing while being patted down by the bouncers. This time i was going to make sure i didn’t confine myself to that 1 room like i did the last time lol. The ramping boom from the speakers really shook the building thanks to 6 Dj’s; Dj AFOO, Dj SIRAK, Dj EL-G, Dj BABU, Dj BIRANE and Dj MAGIC who held it down strong on da 1′s and 2′s. Ladies were oblivious to the way in which they enticed the fellas with their looks. And some guys just knew their SWAGG was on a 100%, so they didn’t sweat-it lol. Rebel that night was a fantastic place to be and by far the hottest African event for that holiday season. We will see if any NEW YEARS event can top this.

With my Nikon camera I was able to capture most of the beautiful faces i saw coming in on the Red Carpet. The one thing i almost forgot was the fact that there were ★FIVE ROOMS & THREE FLOORS★ Wowzers!! I made my way downstairs and found myself in what I think they call the ★The Mezzanine then walked down a couple more stairs and ended up in ★The Gallery, where I witness a half nude fashion show. Ok, Ok, the ladies were not half nude but the fashion show was definitely a sexy one

This event was put together by several strong teams which include: QRIOUS MEDIA GROUP**EASTSIDE PLEASURES**TEAM 1VISION**ROYALTY LIFESTYLE GROUP. This strong presence came together and pulled all the strings necessary. This event was jam packed with different African and Caribbean cultures, but when the Dj’s asked “what country are you from?” It was evident that NIGERIA was in da building and was rep-pin the hardest!!! Not to diverse, but us NIGERIANS know how to party

As most of us can remember Saturday, Dec 19, was the start of the Snowy weather which caused a lot of the performers and guests to have to cancel there trip to Newark for the show. But best believe US that were there can tell that everyone that did not show missed out “BIG TIME”. I have been to many concerts this year, from Alicia Keys to Jay-z to Day 26, and I can honestly say that no concert has put so much Joy and Fulfillment in my soul.

Each of the performers that came up to show us how the Praise God in their own way brought a massage for the audiences to take home, which I’m sure we all did. When you look at the pictures you will see what I’m talking about. The way the different performers mixed in the Old School worship with the New School worship, made it so much more fun for everyone there. I clearly remember a woman of elder age Rappin to one of the performer’s song, which almost brought a tear to my eye lol.. Enjoy the pictures and if you missed this event make sure you attend the next one.

I truly believe its such events like this, will bring us as children of God closer together. In this day and age of people pulling farther away for God. Events such as this can help marge the gap between the old and young and help our society grow. Much praise and appreciation goes to all those who worked hard to put this event together.

Applause Magazine Celebrates 9th year, in NYC

On Saturday December 12, 2009 The Applause Magazine celebrated their 9th Anniversary in New York City at Zereous. In my eyes the event was a success, even with the delay in starting the show but what can you expect African’s do things on their own time.

A diverse group of people came out to help The Applause Magazine celebrate their Anniversary from friends to business partners, even a very funny and interesting “White man” from ABC 20/20, thats what he claimed. He looked kind of like the older John Stossel. lol But it was a Great night!! ^_^

The show also included a fashion and a musical performance. The fashion show in my eyes was the highlight of the day. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to an African fashion show and actually witnessed women who knew how to walk and work the crowd, the model’s are part of Adiree Fashion Agency (www.adiree.com <http://www.adiree.com/> .) The designers, Mary Ajetunmobi and Tolu Alli from Glamm Fashions (www.glammfashions.com) brought out some of their best pieces, as the show was going on I couldn’t help hearing all the good feedback the crowd had to say, a young lady that attended the event said “those pieces are very fashionable I would not mind spending money on something so unique.”

The musical performance was by an upcoming group “Brave Boi Music Group” all I can say is that the ladies were definitely feeling them. With all the good things that was part of the event, it’s time we get back to the host of the event The Applause Magazine. The Applause Magazine was very grateful to all the people that came out to their event, they reveled to us that for their 10th Anniversary they will be giving out the “African Next Generation Award”. In a full recap of the event I would have to grade it an 9 out of 10.

1st hand look at the Incognito Thanksgiving Soiree II, NYC | Photos

INCOGNITO Entertainment sure knows how to put together a hot party. It went down last Saturday, Nov 28, in the Big Apple at club Rebel and incognito ent kept their promise that this event would be “an epitome of Class, Swagg & Sexy”; and it sure was.

If for some reason you weren’t able to make the party after looking at the pix below you can almost feel the excitement everyone had. What more would you expect when you put together an event with 3 DJ’s and 2 rooms filled with the best looking people I’ve seen in a long while. This party by far sets the bar for how 2009 should be ended. I dare someone else to put together a better event before the year is over and invite @Amebor to judge.

So back to the party, I actually didn’t leave the one room I was in, there was just too many fine hunnies for me to risk even checkin out the other room. Champagne and Greygoose filled the dungon club from corner to corner. There were several people celebrating their birthday which made this event one of those they wont forget. Shotout to Funmi!

Overall this is one of those events if you attended you had fun, and if you missed it, “you just missed it.” I’m looking forward to 2010 for any more INCOGNITO events, hopefully they have a special lingerie valentines day party. ThanksGiving Ginger ur Swagga | Report and Photos

So last Friday, Nov 27, it all went down in Staten Island at the Ginger your Swagga party for the one and only Mr. Money, who celebrated his birthday with style. This party took place at Epic Lounge, one of Staten Islands largest night spots.

The birthday boy got the hint and arrived fresh to death. DJ Afoo and DJ Sotan held it down on da 1′s & 2′s spinning the best R&B, Hip-Hop, Afro-Hip-Hop, Hip-life, reggae [dancehall]. At first the party appeared to be dead with only 3 girls dancing, but that soon changed once the champagne started popping and spilling. Soon after, the dance floor got busy – people getting their grind on. Not a bad outcome to a night that started off dead. Once again, happy birthday to the birthday boy!!

I must however add the following:

1.) I didn’t get much love from the ladies, at least from the 2 cute ones I saw all night, and I’ll give them 6 on a scale of 10.

2.) I liked the venue of the event , even though I had no fun , but lots of laugh , see why below

Inside look at the Trois Elegante Pre-ThanksGiving Soiree | @ Abuja Restaurant, New Jersey

Union New Jersey, the pre thanksgiving soiree hosted by Trois Elegante was a success – good music, fun people, drinks and food is all you need to have a good party.

When I arrived, I was greeted to the aroma of sum banging jollof rice and bottles being popped – even in a recession. It was a great crowd, some older cats, and ladies, with some young’ns were in the building partying as one. This event took place @ ABUJA RESTAURANT and was brought to you by the aforementioned TROIS ELEGANTE ENTERTAINMENT with DJ EL-G on the 1’s & 2’s spinning the best R&B, Hip-Hop, Afro-Hip-Hop, Hip-life, reggae [dancehall]

I had a blast covering this event because of the people came out to have a good time, plus I had a couple drinks myself . Everyone seemed to have a great time as you will see in the following pics especially miss “BIG FOOT” who crushed the night with her size 14 lilac shoes. She actually had a little bit more fun that the rest of us. I caught up with her on the way to the bathroom and we discussed big feet…lol

At the end of the night I had a good time and like a flash happy photog that I am, I was just taking pics…lol I hope everyone who attended had fun as well. Cant wait to the next one, till then, its your humble correspondence Mide O., Holla!!!!
