7TH ANNUAL NEA AWARD, NY: GIST, WINNERS, AND PICTURES

by Tope Ogunniran on September 7, 2012

While I I’m well aware of my tardiness with this post, bare with me as I give you an exclusive into the 7th annual NEA award that took place at the Skirball Performing Arts Center on September 2nd 2012 in New York. The show was hosted by none other than “jenifa” star, Funke Akindele, along with Nigeria’s popular comedian AY. I’ll split this post into three categories, beginning with the performances, the gist, and lastly the winners of the year. Lets Begin!

PERFORMERS

Among this year’s performers was Seyi Shay, the talented up and coming singer, who performed her single “Loving Your Way” with two (very fine icon biggrin 7TH ANNUAL NEA AWARD, NY: GIST, WINNERS, AND PICTURES ) back up dancers. Up next was brymo, who performed the crowd favorite “Ara”, and the beautiful/ soulful “Good Morning”. Brymo also decided to take his shirt off during his performance. Honestly ehn, I didn’t know he had all that going on. LOL! Moving on, the sensational WAJE performed her newly released single “I wish”, and she of course thrilled the crowd with her voice. Big Boy Eldee took the stage shortly after, performing “Na Wash” ( the song is quite comical), followed by Vector who performed “Angeli” ft. 9ice. It was also Vector’s first time in NY so he shared his excitement with the crowd. Ice Prince also performed “Juju”, and “Superstar”. I guess everyone in the crowd felt like superstars because I saw a lot of people get up for that particular song. The show was brought to an end with the EME boys this year as Wizkid, Banky W , Skales and Rotimi sang to the audience. ok quick gist: Rotimi performed first, and while he was singing to the ladies and doing all those sexy kind-of-singer faces, (LOL) he attempted to slowly and sexily take off his jacket, but the arm got stuck. #FAIL! LOL ok enough jest, there’s no denying that the dude is talented. And while each EME member performed a single, (Wizkid performing most sha), the boys all came together to sing “Baddest Boy”.

Gist

I heard some rumors about funke akindele being pregnant, but apparently that rumor was addressed by a close friend, who stated that funke is NOT pregnant. I was starting to like the idea of “baby jenifa” but I guess not. But then again, imagine a baby being that razz! Hmm, moving on:

I’ve also heard rumors about Wizkid and Davido beefing, and I’ve been following both artists to see if I can get anything, but I had, and still have no direct information. I can tell you however that while Wizkid was performing, Davido and his crew got up to leave. Their exit wasn’t small either because EVERYONE noticed it. Initially I thought maybe Davido had to be somewhere but I saw him at the after party, so I’m not sure what was going on there. You draw your conclusions.

Uche Jumbo came out with Mr. Rodriguez for the first time, and I must admit: they do make a lovely couple. Thankfully no fights (well none that I heard of) took place at the show or after party.

Last but not least: Full list of Winners (Congrats to all of this year’s winners from AMEBOR!!!!)
